I'm thinking of picking up a Springfield XDs, anyone carry or shoot one? How small is it really? How accurate is it?

Thanks for the reviews.

Picked one up recently.

Shot it for the first time Saturday. Very impressed with lack of recoil for such a small pistol in .45 ACP. I was able to bang out five controllable shots in two-three seconds. It is a small pistol, dwarfed by my PX4 Beretta, fits in a pants pocket if they are on the loose side (khakis for instance).

Just picked up the seven round extended mags today. Haven't shot with them yet but fitted them and they allow the pinkie finger to grip the butt, unlike the standard five round mags. The grip is only .9" wide, but not short front to back so it fills my large (but not x-large) hands well.

Short sight radius, my first impression is that I am much more accurate with my Beretta...but that is not what the XDs is meant for; I can still put all my shots in center mass, rapid fire, from seven yards, that is all I'm concerned with.

If you bought it for what it's meant for, a pocketable large-bore carry gun, I think you will be impressed.

I have had my XDs 45 for about a year now and it is an awesome ccw pistol!

Short sight radius

I agree with this statement, but any compact concealed carry firearm is going to have a short sight radius. I too enjoy the sight radius on my Beretta 92 and a full size 1911, but with that said this XDs is awesome and very accurate with the hi viz sights.... It has been point and click for me straight out of the box.

I am hoping to pick up the XDs 9mm in a few weeks as well. They are a great package, easily concealable and the 45 weighs fully loaded with 6 what my sons XDs 40 weighed empty. I have some 7 round mags coming, but I will use them for range time, the 5 round fit the purpose of CCW perfectly to me. I particularly love the aggressive checkering on these pistols as a CCW firearm.... it just makes sense for that purpose... good grip when you need it the most.

I see it could get a little uncomfortable at the range after a hundred rounds, but lets remember the purpose behind the firearm!!!

XDs 45

I certainly like mine. Have shot about 200 rounds so far. The first 100 in the first range session and the next hundred spread out over a couple months. By the end of the first hundred, I was done shooting it.:)

Like it enough to where it lives in my pocket every day now. Shot it last a few days ago and the first round went exactly where it was envisioned. The remainder went in about a three inch circle around it from about 10 yards at a pace of when the front sight landed back on the target, squeeze again.

I've had an XDs 45 long enough now to have confidence in it as a carry gun. I like big bore handguns anyway so for me it's just about perfect as a CCW.

I carry an XDs in .45acp every day. In my Alabama Holster Company pocket holster, it disappears in most of my cargo pants/shorts and appears as an anonymous lump in dress slacks. Trying to hide the XDs in jeans is a no-go for me, as much because most jean pockets don't allow enough room for a good draw as because of printing issues.

I'm up to 750~ rounds. No failures, apart from one failure to feed with my reloads. I just started rolling my own, so I presume it was something I screwed up. You have to work it with authority - with a loaded magazine, racking the last 1/8" requires more force. If you aren't aware of this, it's easy to cause an awkward jam. Just rack it like you are trying to rip it off the rails and things will be fine.

It's more accurate than I am.

The recoil isn't bad for a pocket .45 but I put it in the "stout" category. I seem to be in the minority there. I also have an issue with some ammo causing trigger slapping. About 75 rounds of Blazer aluminum gave me a blood blister on my index finger. I just avoid ammo that causes that and move on.

I've carried my XDs in 45 everyday since October, probably 1000-1100 rounds through it with no issues. I've convinced 4 other people to purchase one and they have the same experience.
Last week I purchased the 9mm model. Besides a smaller hole it may be better than the 45. You will not be disappointed.

I have both the 9 and the 45,both run great and no issues.
I have not found anything they wont feed.My 45 eats LSWC like it was made for them. These are the only xd hand guns Ive liked enough to own.

Thanks all

Thanks for the great recommendations, it was what I was hoping to hear. I carry a Sig P250 occasionally in 45, but any way one slices it, it's a lage package to carry. It's accurate, but for a defensive weapon, I don't need anything long range accurate. I think the XDs is going to be a perfect carry pistol.

Thanks again for the imput.

Is the P250 the subcompact model that you have ??? If so the XDS is will probably just be a bit thinner that is all, as all other dimensions are very similar between the 2. God Bless :)

Buy it . you can't go wrong . My son has one and he loves it . Accurate . light , and easily concealable.

Here is my XDs45 review that I put together several months ago. I've updated it since writing it as I racked up more range time with it.

I've started liking it so much that I'm back to thinking about adding the XDs9. I don't need it, but I want it. :D We'll see what happens.

The XDs45 is a great little gun to shoot. It is far more accurate than I ever imagined it might be. My Kahr PM9 is back to see a lot of top shelf time in the gun safe while the XDs45 has taken over carry duty. It's a keeper for sure. ;)
