Anyone arm themselves at Home?

Seems everyone here is mostly concerned with home invasion or burglery while you at home.

My incident years ago happened when someone inadvertadly open my front door to my office right behind me as I was entering in the dark of the early morning hours. Lucky my Mod. 36 was in my coat pocket and I didn't have to run for a weapon of some type. We were less than 8 feet apart and he saw the look in my eyes and my hand in my pocket....he decided it wasn't a good idea and was on his way.

Learned my lesson back then...............never open my door unarmed.....never.

Have had stuff stolen out from under my carport and auto broken into.

People have come by asking to do my yard and all the time while talking to me looking around the carport. Not even trying to hide the fact that they are "casing the joint". Now there is nothing to look at under the carport.
Lesson learned.

Yes, I am armed and when I take the dogs out for relief at night I have a flash light also.

Not always, but I should. I have been doing so more and more often though. My roommates thought it was weird, but now they all own firearms too!

Well, when I sit at my desk, my sidearm is never more than a quick grab away. if I'm not at my desk, I ccw. I also keep a shotgun under the lip of my kitchen counter where its easy to grab if I get up to get a drink at night...and no, you cant find it if you don't know exactly where it is...

No, loaded gun is within my reach, but i dont carry at home. After all, all mome invasions Ive ever heard of were when police quick response squad assaulted wrong house.. not situation you would want to brandish your pistol..

Kind of agree, here in Houston, we had a rash of home invasions that were mostly drug dealers getting ripped off. You can ask, what if the druggies get the wrong address?

Not an attempt to hijack the thread, but what if someone knocks on your door, you answer and someone like a salesman or whoever was there, he notices you carrying a fire arm, are you breaking any laws?

I heard on the news recently, didn't get all the particulars, that a man answering the door with a gun was charged with answering the door with a gun. It was in Boston I believe.

I have personally stopped answering the door if I don't who they are.

If you were pointing it at them as you open, I guess. Otherwise, if it's holstered or if your hand is on it I don't see how they can, but then I'm assuming that the locals are rational. Holding a gun in your hand while opening the door - gray area in some places.

Normally have it in my belt but now its just sitting in my lap because it can get uncomfortable in the 4 O'clock position without a holster.

I keep something in whatever room I am frequenting and am always carrying when out back in the shop. You never know when the time will come when your life will be put into danger.

Let me tell you, I live in a safe neighborhood. Bad stuff does not happen here too often. I am sitting here working at my desk with a 40 IWB as always. Stuff happens. Thats what we carry. Unless you live in an actual castle, I would always continue to carry at home as I do out in the world.

I work for government parks and rec and can't carry to work, or really at all on a daily basis. I don't keep anything on me at home, but I have a 45 by the night stand and a 40 under the kitchen sink, both with an extra magazine. If I'm in my living room and they come in the front door, I'm cut off from the 45, and if they come in the back, I'm cut off from the 40. I also keep an AR magazine loaded in my safe by the AR if it comes to that.

Funny I find this thread shortly after seeing a lamp with a swing out bottom as an item for Friends of the NRA Banquets this year.

I do. I wake up and strap on the Miami Classic. Everyday. I don't go out to smoke, or to the store, or anywhere without it. 70k home invasions a year have me feeling more than justified in doing so without thinking I'm being paraniod. Strange I feel defensive about that. Like I owe someone an explanation for pcarrying my gun.

I keep a loaded weapon, fully available in every room of my home , ,I never go to the door without a gun in my hand, I carry a gun, when dumping the garbage, getting the mail, stepping out side to get a breath of fresh air. Six rounds of caution is worth a whole lot of cure.

Not sure if you were referencing the above link on your 70K number but I think it's a heck of a lot more than that. The above FBI table only accounts for robberies (not burglaries but "stick-ups") taking place at a residence. That doesn't even include assaults, rapes, & murders.

The odds are something like 1 in 4,000 households (if I'm calculating correctly). So, there - anyone who ever calls someone who carries at home "paranoid" you now have some numbers.

At Home

Why would you not be? Even in the city the police might take 20 minutes to respond. Read dail 911 and die. Shoot,Clean and Carry with pride. You might want to practice in the house dry of course. To often we shoot paper at the range, and never think of the what if when it comes to the house. Think and plan what to do if the front door goes boom or how best to clear your house you have the upper hand you know where everything is use it. Merry Christmas from the south.

I live in a one-room apartment so a firearm anywhere in my home is close but yes I do keep a pistol locked and loaded and near me at all times. Especially whenever I open the door to someone unexpectedly. Considering the number of home invasions and muggings in my area I feel perfectly justified in my actions. Only problem is that because I live in a one room apartment with very thin walls and neighbors on 3 sides its not overly practical to use either my pistols or my rifles in self defense unless they are between me and the street. However I do make sure to keep several knives within reach at all times. Hell at one point my mother came by and found the knife I keep hidden in my bathroom. That was an interesting conversation.
