Anyone else love the smell of Hoppe's #9

I love the smell of #9, it just smells like guns. It is also a fantastic cleaner, much better than Ballistol or CLP.

Ballistol OTOH STINKS horribly, people that actually like that aroma need their heads examined

It's much better than Ballistol. I can't breath after using that. :barf:
My favorite gun related aroma is opening a can of Benchmark smokeless powder.

I don't mind it, but I don't particularly like it. I mostly use MPro 7 or Wipe Out which are nearly odorless.
Me, too. Except I think I used just as much Shooters Choice and Sweets 7.62 solvent as MPro7.
Then a guy at a Friends of NRA event gave me a sample bottle of this: http://www.qmaxxproducts.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=60&product_id=52
Strange stuff that works like nothing I have ever seen before. No brushing, no scrubbing. Just one wet patch on a jag and all the lead and carbon fouling are gone in one pass. And my wife doesn't mind the smell either.:)

I used to use Hoppe's #9 but switched to my own Ed's Red a long time ago. I still have a couple of bottle of Hoppe's #9 but am just too cheap:)

I really enjoy the smell. I know this is kind of weird but it always reminds me of over-ripe bananas. Any time the bananas start to turn brown, it reminds me of Hoppe's #9.

I also like the smell of Hoppe's . I don't really like cleaning them though , but I usually clean them right after I get home . That's why I don't take more than 2 guns to the range at a time .

I hate the smell of Ballistol also , it chokes me and I hate the smell of Eezox , it gives me a headache .

Seems to me it used to smell a tad different. Nanner oil or something. Still smells good but different than it was.

Now add some ballistol and black powder residue if you want a smorgasbord of funk.

Used to but now it is harsh on me and makes my head ache.

I hate cleaning guns, especially revolvers. Ironically my favorites are .38 K-frame revolvers and SAA clone loaded with black powder cartridges!

Me too. The combined smell of bananas, alcohol and astringent. Still a heck of a lot better than Ballistol... or Old Spice cologne...

I'm 56 & since I use CLP, that's what guns smell like to me.

But when I smell Hoppes #9, I'm a boy in my grandaddy's shop again - for a few moments at least.

I'm a woman, and I LOVE the smell. Hoppes #9 and burnt powder smell great. Of course, I also like the smell of gasoline, so I guess I'm just different. For the record, most perfumes and colognes STINK. People really ought to start wearing Hoppes. The world would just smell so much better.

I also find it incredibly relaxing to watch the case tumbler work without the lid on. Too bad they don't make a clear lid for the one I have.

Hoppe's 20 years ago had a slightly better smell than the current stuff.

I agree, it's changed.

It smelled better in my youth than it does not. Maybe it is my olfactory glands that have changed.

It still invokes fond memories of time with my father.

I still like the smell of Hoppe's #9 along with ethyl gas (100LL comes about the closest these days)

I like it... I dont go out of my way to sniff it, and wont be taking a swig anytime soon (Or wearing it)...LOL BUT I do have to say I enjoy the smell when cleaning guns...

Probably the association to fond memories.

Funny - just had this conversation with a neighbor last weekend, while pouring him some in a small bottle to try.

Love the smell of Hoppe's. It evokes good memories and does a fine job. Better yet, my wife loves the aroma. (But actually cleaning the guns is my job.)

Jeff
