Anyone familiar with this US made AK variant from CAI?

On behalf of a friend whose considering this rifle I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this model. To my eyes, it looks like CAI is offering a US made rifle on a par with the WASR they import and modify to compliance---is that about the score with these? Thanks in advance

I don't have any experience with the RAS-47 but I do own a first generation C39 and I have had no problems with it.

Having said that I just ordered my second AK over the weekend which was an O-PAP from Atlantic. I don't think your friend would go wrong with the RAS-47. I hear much about the recent overall improvement in build quality out of Century.

They seem to be decent from the reviews that I've seen. They have the better 4150 steel barrel and it is nitrided. The receiver is a thicker steel so furniture needs to be fitted a little.

That said, I don't understand paying a premium for it when a WASR is still available cheaper and is a better rifle IMHO.

Thanks for the info---I"m passing along for his review. He's an AR guy but is thinking about an AK and I want to encourage him as there's always room in the stable.

I'm an AR guy mostly but I always have respect for the AK. But, just like with ARs, all AKs are not created equal. I would look at the QC inspected WASRs from Atlantic Firearms for a rifle in that price range. Or an Opap or Npap if he doesn't mind a non chrome lined barrel.

Exactly C-grunt. I've got a couple 'Good' WASRs so I'm partial to them for the deal they can be--but the QC on them is a must. They have had some clunkers in the past.
