So Buds has the mailing service to ship a gun that you sell.

Ship My Gun

http://www.shipmygun.com/go/?utm_source=BGS&utm_medium=side banner&utm_campaign=BGS Side Banner

You pay them and they send you a shipping label and a box. You still need to bring it to your FFL to ship it to the receiving FFL so what the heck are you saving?? Most FFLs what to contact the receiving FFL themselves anyway. Isn't that why they charge you for transferring a gun?

If I sell a gun I get it all boxed and ready, bring to my FFL who has the buyers FFL, logs it, prints a shipping label and changes me whatever to ship it??

Why would someone use BUDS service?? seems like paying double to me??

1. They have a volume discount so shipping cost will be lower
2. You don't have to take it to a FFL to ship it. Bud's is pretending to be the sending FFL. I doubt the receiving FFL even knows the difference between a gun sent directly from Bud's and one sent through Ship-My-Gun.

Rule3 .... You still need to bring it to your FFL to ship it ...
No, you don't. Unless your state has a law requiring FFL---> FFL.

Federal law requires that the shipping dealer have a copy of the receiving dealers FFL before shipment. There is no such requirement for nonlicensees.

Yes.
Buds service is no different, just eliminating your dealer. You will have to take it to a UPS Customer Service Center yourself (not a UPS Store or other third party retailer)
Bud's prints the shipping label from their account. They get heavily discounted rates from UPS and are merely reselling UPS services.

Why would someone use BUDS service??
Because some dealers charge $35-50 or more transfer fees PLUS actual shipping.

seems like paying double to me??
You need to check your math.;)

I can beat Buds "Ship My Gun" prices simply by using USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate boxes. I charge my customers $10 + actual postage/insurance/adult signature

JSH1 .... Bud's is pretending to be the sending FFL.
No, they aren't.

I doubt the receiving FFL even knows the difference between a gun sent directly from Bud's and one sent through Ship-My-Gun.
They will because there won't be a Bud's FFL number inside, just the actual shippers invoice.

If Bud's isn't making the shipment a FFL-FFL transaction then I agree with the OP and this has no value to the customer. The only benefit would be a discount on shipping costs, which would be erased by Bud's fee.

You may as well just pack and ship it yourself.

What "fee" is Bud's charging?

I don't think either of you has read one bit of that website.

Can you pack and ship a handgun for $39 yourself? (hint.....you cannot)

I am not talking about some FFL that will accept transfer from and individual so cross that out of the discussion,

No I do not need to check my math. Not comparing it to and individual shipping

Also if you actually look at what they charge it is way more than my FFL charges me.

Follow the power point on how this works.

You enter YOUR FFL and the Receiving FFL

I'm pretty certain that it has to do with federal law. First off, let me first advise that I'm an attorney that has experience in this area. To ship a handgun via US Postal, you have to declare your intended item of parcel (a handgun) and obtain permission from your local post master. Even then, it's very easy to run afoul of federal law in this respect. Look up 18 USC 922, and give it a good read. I've inquired about this Bud's service (a while back) and I believe it may be set up to make it easy and LAWFUL for an owner of a handgun to ship it to Buds. But to be sure, call Buds and find out.

Rule3 Also if you actually look at what they charge it is way more than my FFL charges me.
"Way more"? For UPS Next Day? Doubtful.
More than USPS Priority Mail....sure.

You need to watch the video again.
You DO NOT enter your usual/local FFL......... BECAUSE HE AIN''T SHIPPING YOUR GUN! :banghead:

The video actually asks you to enter or select the RECEIVING dealer.

"Pretty certain" vs "experience in this area" does not jibe.

Based on this answer I have to question your expertise.:scrutiny:
1. Only licensed dealers and manufacturers (and certain LE) can ship firearms other than rifles or shotguns via USPS. Ordinary folks cannot.
2. There is no "permission" required from the postmaster for any firearm shipment. Dealers and manufacturers are required to submit a USPS Form 1508 at the time off mailing a firearm other than rifle or shotgun. The form is notification only and does not need approval or permission.
3. Bud's Ship Your Gun doesn't even use the USPS.....its UPS!!!

I suggest the same.;)

This isn't about shipping a firearm TO Bud's.........it's a shipping service to offer discounted rates for nonlicensees to ship guns to dealers OTHER THAN Bud's.

Do you think that Bud's is going to do this for free? I don't. I have read some of the sight and watched the video. I don't see what Bud's gets out of this.

Can you pack and ship a handgun for $39 yourself? (hint.....you cannot)

I've never had to ship a handgun so I checked. Shipping UPS Next Day Saver to my parents house is $68.98. Bud's lists their cost as $39.

Now I see the value. :)

JSH1 ....Do you think that Bud's is going to do this for free?
Bud's ships almost exclusively via UPS.
They ship such a tremendous volume of packages that they get very deep discounts from UPS. The difference between their actual cost vs price paid by a user of Shipmygun.com =profit.

The video actually asks you to enter or select the RECEIVING dealer.

It asks to enter both. And a FFL can send a handgun USPS Priority mail 2 or 3 day for around $15 with insurance it's a few bucks more. Done it many many times.

Forget about it as I have no intention of using it at all anyway and there is no sense in discussing it further.

What's the fuss about?

Using this service will cost you $39.00 to ship a handgun.

If you take it to your handgun to a UPS service center they will ship it for you,,,
But they make you use their fast service and charge you $70.00 for it.

You save $31.00 immediately.

Yes, your LGS can ship it cheaper,,,
But the question is,,,
Will he?

My LGS charges me $35.00 and then sends it USPS,,,
Which only costs him the flat rate fee for the size box he uses.

But then he adds his transfer fee on top of that.

For me, he just charges me $35.00 even.

If I didn't have that resource,,,
I would jump all over Buds Ship My Gun service.

Wow, they provide a click-by-click video and people STILL can't figure out how to do it ....

You select the recipient's FFL at 1:40 in the video. When they say "Select your FFL" they're referring to your RECEIVING FFL, which is the only FFL that is used. You are shipping the gun as a private individual.

Where do you believe that you select any other FFL?

I shipped a handgun, UPS overnight, to Nevada last week. It cost me over $100.

$39 is a LOT less.

Seems simple.

My local FFL charges $50 or more to ship a handgun. If yours does it cheap, consider yourself lucky.

I shipped two handguns this past month, they cost me $32 and $35 to ship through my FFL, which included his $20 fee. I would use Bud's service if I didn't have access to my FFL.

Understand that the $39 is WITH NO INSURANCE.

That UPS Service Center is not doing anything differently than ShipMyGun....you're just getting a discount.

If still have to take your shipment to that service center.

Your dealer didn't insure those firearms.;)

It's a poorly worded and confusing video to say the least.

I've never purchased from Bud's but from what I've heard from others and what I see on their website, they really need to improve their communications skills.

If it is $39 for handgun, that is a real savings for an unlicensed individual shipper. The one's I've sent in recent memory have been between $70-100 for UPS overnight air. I could via a FFL, but they charge for the service and then there is postage on top of that. There's a savings going that route, but not much, and you've got to factor in the time.

Well, I just wish Bud's would ship the Ruger New Vaquero I ordered last Monday. It's still sittin' in their shipping department.

Last handgun I ordered from them (early December) was on the truck in two days.

Yeah, I know... 3-7 working days.
