Anyone have a 9mm BHP with the 11# variable rate recoil spring?

I'm hoping some one can/will give me the out-ofgun total length for the variable rate 11# recoil spring.

I'm planning to use it in a 9mm CZ75B and the length is a concern.

Thanks

Guys at CZfirearms.us claim, that Wolff BHP recoil springs fit better then their CZ springs. Your primary concern is not the spring length - it's the number of coils.

No, it's the length.
The 75B has a short guide rod and it's unsupported on the front end--the slide isn't drilled for guide rod support. A long spring tends to "hump" in the middle and rub the slide. They do work "humped", but I don't like it.
The HP spring will fit the guide rod tighter.

Coil "wire" diameter also helps determine coil weight in pounds not JUST number of coils.

"The 75B has a short guide rod and it's unsupported on the front end..." - same with the Browning - about 3 coils are "hanging" in the air.

"Coil "wire" diameter also helps determine coil weight in pounds not JUST number of coils." - but you already know the weight, right? Number of coils is important for compressed spring length - to not get a spring bind in full recoil cycle.

How about calling Wolff Springs and asking them?

I had a Star MOD 30MI and they didn't list a recoil spring for it. They told me that they could match one up for me if I sent them the old spring. I did and they did just that. You probably won't need to send them anything because they probably sell the one you're wondering about and the one you want it to replace.

I may switch out my 75B Wolff/EAA spring for a BHP spring. What BHP spring weight is recommended?

Pilot, the 75B 9mm runs a 14# spring "stock" nib.

I only shoot a light IPSC comp load, so mine runs well with an 11# CZ recoil spring.

gunsprings.com offers several "optional" spring weights for both pistols. The only "light weight" for the BHP is the variable 11#.

P.S. I bought a replacement 11# spring from the CZ custom shop. (they use Wolf springs) The spring was so long you couldn't get the slide to close. I contacted the Custom Shop, and they said: yeah, for the B you have to cut two or three coils off to get it to fit. Wonder what the "weight" is with my 11# spring MINUS two coils? :what::fire: It does work, but will not lay flat on the guide rod. When NIB the OE 14# was a smaller diameter, snapped onto the guide rod over a bump at the end of the rod, AND layed FLAT! I'm trying to find an 11# that will do the same. Less spring wire is needed for an 11# than for the 14# spring it came with.

That's why I'm looking at the BHP, which does work for many CZ users. I'm hoping the d@#^^ thing will lay flat.

Maybe I'm just anal.

Boris that is exactly correct. The BHP is an 11# spring. It is a smaller "coil" diameter than the Wolff spring. I'm hoping it's ALSO shorter than the Wolff spring. I already know it will fit. I'm just hoping it will fit "BETTER" than the Wolff spring. The only thing I don't know is the total length of the BHP spring. The too long spring is binding BEFORE it's even in recoil.

Thanks 1SOW. I use the 14 lb for my BHP, but didn't know if the same one was used for the 75B.
