Saw a decent blued one at the LGS for the cash price of $391. Mechanicals and finish were nice, and the wood stocks were some really ugly aftermarket ones that will definitely get replaced if I end up getting the gun.

I have some Ruger D/A revolvers, but don't usually see the 2.75" variant of this revolver. Just looking for feedback, opinions, etc. from owners.

GET. IT. IMMEDIATELY

One of the best 357s ever made. They ain't making any more, and they are getting more expensive everyday. That is a good price

Back when the security six was in production that was considered a snub nose 357mag. They built pistols to get the job done, not produce a gun that was used in a movie. You will enjoy the security six and it will not let you down.

I have a 3" SP101. A friend has a 2.25" SP101. You wouldn't think 3/4" inch of barrel would make a difference but my SP101 handles 357mag loads much better and it only weighs one ounce more than the 2.25" model.

My father is a retired LA county deputy. He will not own a 357mag with less than a 2.5" barrel. He still has the cop mindset. If the gun will not penetrate a door on a 1950 something car he doesn't want the gun.

Here is a good deal on 357mag ammo. I have been shooting this ammo lately it is accurate and has plenty of power. I only have water to test expansion but I am seeing no signs of over expansion or fragmentation. It sure beats paying $1 a shot for hollow points that do no better. Gander Mountain charges $80 for 100 Remington plain green box hollow points.

A friend and I split 500 rounds of Fiocchi ammo. Less than a month later we got 500 more rounds just to make sure we had plenty of 357 ammo. We shot 100 rounds each the first day we got the Fiocchi ammo.

I'm a Smith & Wesson guy now, and I've pretty much got all the 38/357's I want/need, but the Security/Speed-Six revolvers were some of the best ever made. I had a few of them, including a 2 3/4" Speed-Six back in the day. Darn good guns, and that's a good price these days.

Get it.

Missed by ~35 years. :)

In the late '70s I gifted my 2¾" SS Security Six (sn: 151-75701) to my roommate who was moving to Texas.

I had replaced the original wood grips (I have what I think are those downstairs, btw) with a Pachmayr set and used it as one of my CCWs for a couple of years. The only CCW that I ever carried in a shoulder rig.

It was heavy ... but it was well-made, accurate, reliable, comfortable and robust.

*Update

I went in and put it on layaway. The cash price was actually $379, not $391.

The gun is a 150-series Security Six, so now, the search for grips is underway. :)

Thanks everybody for the feedback. Pics when I get it!

I have two Speed Sixes and a Service Six all stainless steel and all 2.75" barrels. Great revolvers so jump on that one.

I have had one for years.bought a 4" barrel on eBay to put on it but never got around to it. Glad I didn't. It is my farm carry gun while mowing, trail cutting, bushwacking, and generally messing around. Accurate, doesn't give up much to my 4", and I've taken two deer, one coyote and three groundhogs with it.
Lyman 357446 or 358156 over 14 grains of 2400 is enough for anything I will run into.
I have a 3" SP 101 but the "Six" shoots better.

Oh, yea I have s short Security Six.

Speed Six and GP100 to.

I've been looking for some grips for the gun, and realized that finding grips for a 150-series Security Six is akin to finding a unicorn.

I have two of the 4" models (just grabbed one this week and haven't shot it yet), but they are later, 154-series guns.

It's a good thing that this gun is on layaway right now. It will give me some time to track down grips for it. Gunbroker has a few sets, but they are pricey.

I bought my stainless model back in the early 80's, and I will likely never part with it. It is my bedside gun now, and it is still as tight as the day it was made, despite many thousands of rounds through it.

ImageUploadedByTapatalk1421433146.795683.jpg my favorite Ruger. It was carried by a peace officer in Northern California then went to Vietnam and now is mine. I traded my GP-100 4" for it. With a Tyler T-grip it fits my hand perfectly.

One of the very best handling and shooting guns I have. Seems to me to have the perfect weight and balance for the .357. I flat out love mine and hope you enjoy your as much.

I have 4 of these nice handguns 2 of them are 4 inch stainless, one 6 inch Stainless all with the Ruger target stocks and a 2.75 inch blue with a set of Pachs. on it.I picked up the blue one last, for $175, lightly used. All these were picked up over the years as I can't resist a good gun at a good price. I haven't seen one for sale locally for years. i'm guessing people are hanging on to them, I know I am.

My BIL just picked up a 4" stainless for $600. It's in mint condition, too.

OP, congratulations on a fine revolver. I have a 2.75" SS security six. It wears a set of inexpensive Sile rubber grips that are on sale at CDNN. My biggest mistake with my Six, was to let my wife shoot it at the range a few years ago. Once she tried it, it became "her" ccw. Such as life.

At $379, that's about $109 more than what I paid for my Security Six back in 1980. Then again, $270 in 1980 dollars bought a lot more than $379 does today, so YOU got the better buy.
