wife adn i went to the gunshow today. had three goals in mind,

try and find a 12ga Khan Artemis O/U for my wife to try for fit/balance

price used Savage short actions (Model 10,12, 14 etc) to see if it'd be worth it to buy a used one just for the action, to be used in a custom build.

and lastly to look at what's "out there" in the way of ARs with A1/C7 style uppers or the parts to build one, and what prices are those gong for. to have an idea of what would need to be done to build my wife the rifle she wants.

this last endevor brings me to start this thread, one vendor had a rifle that with a few minor exceptions meets ALL of the needs that we had set forth. an Olympic Arms "GI-20"
basic specs,
A1 (C7 really ie A1 sights on other wise A2..) Upper,

standard (A2 style) Lower

upper and lower are FORGED not cast (an upgrade over the "Plinker" line)

20" barrel with that odd ringed muzzle Oly uses

basicly it's a forged version of the Plinker with a 20" barrel.

asking price was $580

anyone have one?
or know a reason NOT to get one??

any and all info appreciated.

Only ar I have is a bushmaster, but a good friend of mine has a oly ar and swears by it as a plinker. If theres a version out there with forged parts, Id be tempted myself. Swat did a write up on oly ars a few years back and had nothing but good things to say about the rifle. Unless someone has a truly negative story out there, Id say go ahead and get it.

$580 new? That's a pretty fair price. I'd definitely get one. :)

Two of my friends have Olympic rifles. They are reliable, accurate, and fun to shoot, and they have a lifetime warranty. Olympics are the best "starter" ARs if you don't want to shell out 900+ bucks on a Colt.:D
