Anyone have any feedback on Weatherby Vanguard S2?

How so...i was told I'd be wasting my time and money to send them that rifle. That was weeks before I ever even touched the rifle.

The Weatherby rep I spoke to said they didnt use the stock it shipped with to accuracy test it, and they didnt send the target back to the customer to prove it met the guarantee.

Update to that rifle is I had a Bartlein barrel installed and the gunsmith said my barrel was .11ths off center axis of the receiver

Who told you that you would be wasting your time and money? Was it some customer service or sales rep that knows jack about guns, or were you talking with one of their gunsmiths/machinists/engineers that would actually be evaluating/fixing your rifle? If the answer is "I don't know" or "customer service rep" I think its on you for not sending it in for them to take a look at it. Now, if you were talking to one of their gunsmiths, I think its a different story. If the guy that was going to be working on my rifle told me it was a waste of time, I wouldn't want them to fix it anyways even if they did find a problem, simply due to their attitude and lack of confidence that they would do the job right. If it was just some ignorant customer service rep that was running their mouth about a waste of time, I would send the rifle in and let someone that actually knows what they are talking about take a look at it and see what they find.

Either way, its over with now. How does the gun shoot now that you have a new barrel?

Wow, that is a mess and I would not be happy with them either.

I have had nothing but good with them however, so things like this just makes me wonder?

I bought my daughter the GH2 pink spider web camo version of the vanguard S2, its a compact 7mm-08 with a 20" barrel. This thing just shoots great with what ever I've put thru it. Handloads only, but I started with 140 gr. SST's loaded light with H4895 for her first deer season, trying to keep the recoil down. She was just 12 yrs. old and petite, but handled it very well and killed a nice 4x4 muely at 200 yards with that load.

I then bumped up to full power loads and it shoots them just as well, all under moa for 5 shots at 100 yards. I tried Sierra Pro Hunters in the 120 and 140 gr, they all shoot about 3/4" but nothing better either. Great little rifle though and we are both happy with it.

Also just got my son a S1 wood and stainless version in 300 Weatherby, this thing shoots fantastic as well with 212 gr. ELD-x which is the only load we have tried so far.

I'd guess they shoot it from a machine rest/fixture, most likely at a large board rather than a target. So I can understand not returning a "target"

The customer rep could have been a little more informative, and helpful tho. I've never had someone tell me NOT to send a rifle back that didn't work they way it was supposed to. Tho I also bet they get a lot of "muh, gun, dun choot! " calls. Couple that with a grumpy rep, and you have a recipe for a bad customer service encounter.

Good on you for getting it worked out, sounds like a sweet rifle now.

It's been a while so I can't say for certain who it was I talked to but I asked to speak to a supervisor after the initial person wasn't helpful. I'm 90% sure they said they were the lead shop technician. And I'd had loved to send the rifle in but after being told "waste of time" and "barrel twist is irrelevant" I was over it. I was also never even issued a Return Authorization Number so I couldn't have sent it in anyways.

To answer who it shoots now...after the barrel swap it's an amazing shooter. Rounds 4,5,6 out of that new Bartlein measured .473 inches at 100 yards, I used factory Hornady American Whitetail 139 Interlock.

I’ve had fantastic customer service from Weatherby except for once. I talked to a CS rep and didn’t like what they had to say. All I did was call back and the next person was very helpful. I’d tried six different factory loads with my .243 and the best accuracy I could get was around 1.5”. The first person I talked to said I needed to try some more ammunition. The second person said send it in. I did and ten days later received a new rifle. It shot sub-moa. Every company, no matter how good has a few bad apples. I can’t imagine calling a company once and giving up when I didn’t receive satisfaction. I’ll call them again. So again I don’t see your experience as an indictment in any way of Weatherby.

This is a good point and I agree - unless you are talking to the guy that actually works on the guns. If he has a bad attitude and says something you don't like, I would not risk sending in my rifle unless I planned on selling it as soon as I got it back... and maybe not even then.

I have two Weatherby Vanguard S2's. One plane jane in 257 Wby and a WaeatherGuard in 300 Wby. Both are shooters! Can get .3"- .5" at 100ydas from them with my handloads if I'm doing what I need to do. 1" groups are very easy with both even with factory ammo.

Can't comment on customer service as I've never needed it.
