Their site lists the upper as having a 18" barrel with post-ban muzzle brake. I didn't know DPMS makes .22 upper in this configuration. Can anyone who bought this from them validate if this is true?

Lone Star Guns in Dallas says the post ban DPMS. 22 upper does not come with a brake and is 16"?

cslinger: how do you like it? I've often thought about getting either the conversion kit or a dedicated upper. Just never seem to get around to it.

OK here is my take on the DPMS unit. First here is my original thread describing the upper, testing for function and basic accuracy etc.

I did try the upper with a Rock River lower and it was picky with ammo. It wanted the really hot .22 to function at 100%. Both of my Bushmaster lowers run with anything, specifically Federal Bulk Pack.

I did have a .22 round case rupture with the upper and it did absolutely no damage whatsoever to the upper. I talked with DPMS armorers about this and they said that they make sure to test all units for this kind of failure and that the worst thing that could happen is the blowing of one of the bolt claws off, which did not happen to me.

All in all I am exceedingly pleased with the upper. It is built tough as nails, very accurate, looks exactly like a post ban M4 and was cheaper than some of the custom units. Best gun money I have ever spent.

If you go to the thread below and find my post about EBR's you will see the .22 unit on the Rock River Lower with a real AR magazine put in for show. This should give you an idea of how it looks attached to a lower. It is the third AR down and is the only one with the fixed collapseable stock.
