Anyone held a Sig 1911

Good guns but I am not too crazy about the light rail underneath. I am more of a traditionalist in that regard. If it suits your needs then go for it. You will not be compromising on quality by purchasing a Sig. I personally own and carrry a springfield 1911 A-1. It has been my favorite handgun since I bought it and have been slowly customizing it to my exact needs.

I like em, I've looked at a few so far this year but haven't had the courage yet to throw down the money and walk out with one. I like the Sig/1911 combo look, they really pulled it off well. Certainly not a classic 1911, but a new design for a new era. I'm sure they are nice guns, why wouldn't they be......they're Sigs!:D

Yes & No

I've handled them in stores, but have not bought one, nor am I inclined to do so. Sigarms has a little too much marketing hype to suit me, and it has rather turned be off on their products. Actually when you say "Sig", what does it mean. To my understanding, my only real "Sig" is my P210, which was made in Switzerland. Then there is "Sig Sauer", which is the combined company of Sig and Sauer of Germany. Added to that is the American company, SIGARMS, that imports the European guns and makes the 1911's.

My observations over the years are that people buy because of price, quality or the combination of the two, which can be termed: value.

When people buy because of price, they are usually looking for the lowest cost item. Quality is rather self-explanatory, but value means quality for a good price.

The Sig's aren't the lowest priced 1911's out there, so I wouldn't buy one based on price. I wouldn't classify them in the same league as Wilson Combat, Les Baer, etc., so I wouldn't buy one based on quality (I bought the P210, P220 Sport, P226 Sport, P226 X-Five based on quality).

As far as value is concerned - I just don't know. Therefore, I don't own one.

Really like my STX...I don't like the light rail either so I didn't get one on mine...some difficulty with hard moulded holsters and the unique slide profile but mine is a keeper...

I shot one at the Sig Show that my local gun club had a few months ago. It felt good in my hands and was very accurate. I own 9 Sigs - all "P" series and like them very much. I don't own any 1911s as of yet (not really sure why) but if and when I get around to buying one, I'd strongly consider the GSR.

Yeah. I really didn't care much for it. It didn't feel like a 1911. It felt like Sig's attempt at making a 1911 . . . I've always felt Sig's seemed too top heavy, too tall, too much weight out in front.

I carried a 229 for years. When I finally decided to "see what this whole 1911 cult" was about, I put away the 229 for good. The ergonomics on a 1911 just felt so much better for me - the balance; the slim profile; it sat lower. Just the whole package felt better for me. When I picked up a Sig 1911, I thought to myself, "Hmmmm. This feels and handles like that Sig. Nothanks."

Just my opinion. If you like Sigs, you'll like this. If you don't, you won't.

I held a Sig 1911 at my FFL's shop. It's a 1911 in name only. Didn't feel like a 1911 in the hand at all to me. My dealer was talking the gun up, but I wasn't impressed.

I have two Sigs. A P6 and the 1911 GSR Revolution. I bought my Revolution without the rail. Had a few minor problems to start and Sig customer service took care of it and had it back to me in less than a week. The gun feels great and shoots dead on. Very reliable. It sits nice in a holster by Horseshoe Leather and a belt from Beltman. I don't think you can go wrong with a Sig.

looks like they're following Taurus's example.
Except, I bet you can actually get a hold of a Sig 1911....

Re: Taurus 1911's: shouldn't be any problem getting them now. Sportingarms.com in Lewisville, TX had one last week and Academy in Grapevine, TX had a couple they have had for awhile. Of course I'm talking about the blued version.

Re: "Feel" of the GSR vs. "1911"'s. That really surprises me. I never noticed any difference in feel of different 1911's that I own or have felt. I do have a STI LS9 on order and it is SUPPOSED to feel different. I just have a problem with them calling it a 1911. To me a 1911 should use standard 1911 interchangeable parts. Once you get rid of the barrel link or produce a LDA trigger like Para, it is no longer a true 1911.

I wouldn't knock the Sigarms GSR because I'm sure it is a quality product, it just isn't one that I'd buy. I think if I was in the market for another 1911, from a manufacturer that I don't already have one from, my first choice would be the SW1911 from the Smith and Wesson Performance Center. Although a Les Baer would be on equal footing; it would probably break down to price.

I have shot the GSR Revolution, its a nice accurate gun with a decent trigger, the only problem I had with it was the extractor was to tight or something, and would not allow the rounds to feed. I'm sure that could be cured with a few light swipes with a small fine file to remove some sharp corners, other than that it was a fine firearm.

Wow

sturmgewehr, I don't want your gun - I want your camera. Those are some of the best pictures I've seen of guns. Kudos to you for some outstanding photography.

I bought a GSR Revolution TTT in late May, this year. Fit and finish are excellent, it's accurate, feeds the variety of ammo I put through it, and looks good (to me). I've had no negative issues with the pistol in over 1k rounds.

Even put grips to match my homemade knife on it

They are nice - but I am not too big of a fan of the shape of their grip safety. I don't like the way that "bump" sticks up.

Picked up the basic GSR XO model (no rail included) a few weeks ago when I saw it in the case at a local pawn shop. Impresses me more each time I take it out to the range. Has fed everything I put thru it, and is extremely accurate. One of the best deals I've gotten recently.

I have handled them and would love to get one. A friend of mine, who works in a gun store, had one, sold it, realized how much he loved it, and bought it back.
Sig makes good guns and I don't have a problem with their version of the classic.
