Anyone here using a handgun

I plan to use a S&W model 29 .44 Mag. with an 8 inch barrel.
Things may change but that's the plan right now. I have used
the gun for metal targets and it's easy to hit with out to 100 Yds..

After I assist my grandson getting a deer, I will attempt using my Super Redhawk. I will use 310gr because it shoots them a little better.

I retired the Python after blasting an 8 pointer.
Figure I give the deer enough of a chance in bow running an old Blackwidow recurve.
Come gun season it's serious biz and the .35 Rem rifle (scoped) gets the nod.

Never have killed a deer with a specialty pistol...................a Super 14 TC .357 mag might find it's way home at some point.

Killed a few with Smith 629's and Ruger SBH and SRH.............like the .44 mag a lot, but the older I get the less roar I like.

I plan on using both my .460 XVR and my Ruger Blackhawk in .41 mag.

This will be the first time I've used a handgun on whitetail.

For the past 2 seasons I've carried my .45C Blackhawk, haven't got a shot yet but I'm still planning on hunting with it at least part of the week.

I gave up BP hunting. Am too old and cranky to mess with that stuff anymore.
Gave my TC Hawken Silver Elite to my dad.

14" 7-30 Waters T/C Contender for the last 10 years has taken numerous deer and countless hogs, as long as I can keep a supply of Nosler 120 gr BT, the pistol will be in the fields.

I'll be talking my 7.5" NM Blackhawk in .45 Colt this year like I have the past couple. I haven't killed a deer with it yet, but I'm hoping to soon.

I've killed several deer during that time but haven't been able to get them close enough for the pistola.

I love handgun hunting for deer. Hogs too. I have used several different firearms for that-just cause I wanted to. First was a Ruger Redhawk in .44 Mag. Then there is the Contender super 14 in 30-30 (with which I've taken the most). Then there was the S&W model 25 in .45 Colt. Next up is the Ruger Blackhawk Bisley Hunter model (with which I've taken my biggest handgun buck). Two of those are gone but fondly remembered.

I have a couple of more that I want to 'break in'. One is a Ruger Blackhawk with .45 Colt and .45 ACP cylinders. I'll be using the .45 Colt loads and it is a very accurate handgun. Lastly, I want to use my Freedom Arms .454. I really want to thump a hog with that one!

Anyone here using a handgun for whitetails this year?
Steve

That's just about all I've used for the last decade or so. The few times I've used a long gun, it's been a handgun caliber carbine. I generally use either a 629 or my .460 X-Frame, but occasionally will take one of my 686s depending on expected distance of any shots and how successful I've been previously. It ain't the kill that excites me any more, but the hunt. If I get a deer with a handgun, it makes the drag out, the skinning and butchering worth the effort. Not so much anymore when I use a long gun, even tho I enjoy eating venison.

I miss my Contender 7mm TCU. Shot 2 deer with it last year. he 120 gr BT works swell.

I may down a doe or two with my GP. It really likes 180 gr XTPs. They have worked well on 5 or 6 whitetails.

I only saw one other .41 magnum Blackhawk out of all these guns but thaye what ill be taking with me. Might bring the model 28 too.

I'll once again be using my Ruger GP 100 357 . It did the trick last year with 1 shot. I don't see any reason to change .
