I don't think there is a gun range any more in Greenwich.
The only range I know of that is close to there is Forest and Field/Scott Moss in Norwalk, and they are a bunch of arrogant preening, jerks. Even if you go in there to buy a gun, they treat you like crap, or like you owe them something, rather than as a potential customer.
I personally prefer the Bridgeport Shooting Range. The staff there are nice, knowledgable, and always willing to help in any way they can.

Distra- Next time you guys are going, please send me a PM or something. I'd love to come along, if ya don't mind.

I'd be down for a group shoot. :D

Unfortunately I'll be out of town until the end of January, but keep me on your list of invitees.

Assualt weapons can be owned only if you bought them before I think 92 and have a certificate of possesion from the state police weapons unit ,ak types wher registered the last 2 years because of a court case on the word "type",range fees are expensive blue trails is 15.00 a hr and wolfs is 18.00 a hr i think ,People have been arrested for putting after market folding stocks on guns ,ct does not like to make gun laws clear ,having a gun in the car with no permit is a felony

wait hold on, if having a gun in the car without permit is illegal then how do I transport the gun from AL to CT???:what:

I do have to ask one more question (apologies to lionken07 for "borrowing" your thread:) ) but does anybody there have a C&R and what restrictions - if any - are there?

Here in PRNJ the laws are such a catch 22 that it's almost illegal to have one.

Ranges in CT

I'm a member of the mattabassett rifle and pistol club check out our website for some info or P.M. me and I'll try to answer.

There are a few public ranges but the whole state is maybe a 3 hour drive across the farthest part so everything is pretty close. Most every town has a Rod and Gun club. There is a nice one, The Hartford gun club, out by the airport but it is pricey at over 500 dollars per year plus initiation fee. Most are less money then that.

You guys that are moving in if you have any specific questions just ask and I'll try to answer.

Couple items. My reading of the above linked section of the CT statues shows an exception allowing you to bring your pistol to the range if you do not have a permit.

There is an indoor range private club in Cos Cob (Greenwich). A few months ago I talked to a guy who shoots .22 competitions there. He told me it was in the same building as the police range. Last time I checked I think it was around $400/year.

Scott Moss/Shooting Sports in Norwalk is still around & expensive (IMO). He wants $25/hour. I usually go to the Bridgeport Shooting Range for $15/hour with discounts for first responders.

or to any person transporting a pistol or revolver in or through the state for the purpose of taking part in competitions, taking part in formal pistol or revolver training, repairing such pistol or revolver or attending any meeting or exhibition of an organized collectors' group if such person is a bona fide resident of the United States and is permitted to possess and carry a pistol or revolver in the state or subdivision of the United States in which such person resides, or to any person transporting a pistol or revolver to and from a testing range at the request of the issuing authority, or to any person transporting an antique pistol or revolver, as defined in section 29-33. For the purposes of this subsection, "formal pistol or revolver training" means pistol or revolver training at a locally approved or permitted firing range or training facility, and "transporting a pistol or revolver" means transporting a pistol or revolver that is unloaded and, if such pistol or revolver is being transported in a motor vehicle, is not readily accessible or directly accessible from the passenger compartment of the vehicle or, if such pistol or revolver is being transported in a motor vehicle that does not have a compartment separate from the passenger compartment, such pistol or revolver shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console. Nothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit the carrying of a pistol or revolver during formal pistol or revolver training or repair.

I go to Bridgeport too!!!! I love the people working at that range.

Honestly, I stay the heck out of Scott Moss. Haven't been in there for about 2 years now.
I don't know if it is appropriate to bad-mouth a gun shop on the internet, so I'll shut my trap before getting too specific.

i didn't even know about the place in Greenwich.

New England tends to be a bit draconian in their attitudes toward personal firearms ownership/carrying.

Kinda broad brush there...Vermont is still part of New England, and if you have a permit from your home state, a NH permit is easy and quick to get. Maine wasn't that hard either.

Mass and RI suck.

One other note about CT legal foolishness. If you have any full auto stuff, be careful. Plain full auto is ok (as long as you're compliant with Federal law), but if it has a selector switch, it's an assault weapon, and illegal. :barf:

30 Cal-
Yeah, Jamie is awesome. Although, there's a Hispanic woman who works there, and for the life of me, I can never remember her name, but she is the sweetest person in the world.

As for the subgun thing, it used to be that whenever I went in there, there was this crazy Russian guy who had what was quite possibly the nicest collection of class 3 carbines, and subguns I have ever seen.

How much do I wanna bet that he is one of you guys? That'd be my luck.

Gotta read the regs like they were written gewehr. The issuing authority is the State of Connecticut, so the only time a non-CCW holder can transport a handgun to the range is when ordered to do so by the State. Read it carefully -- the part about organized competitions requires that the owner be legally permitted to possess and carry by the person's state of residence. Which means a Connecticut resident without a carry permit (license) doesn't qualify. That clause is in there to allow non-residents to attend competitions within Connecticut.
