Anyone interested in a 1.7" black powder mortar?

Can you post the design or a few pics? I'm trying to envision a 1.7" mortar.

Is this a miniature?

What kind of price are we talking about?

I've got an aquaintance with a 1.5" bore miniature field gun that is a blast (literally) to shoot. A nice mortar would up the fun factor.

I hope your dog can run far and fast! My potato cannon could fit a golf ball with a styrofoam sabot and with regular aerosol deodorant i would launch it out over 500 yards easily. I would imagine BP would push it much farther!

Im interested! Golf ball mortar...sounds fun. And i have lots of room to fire it.

My dad also has a (im guessing) .40 cal cannon about 7 inches long.

Everyone should play (mortar) golf. I'm in the beercan league myself.

one of the last times i went shooting at a public range (merely state land that allows shooting), there was a guy there that had a small mortar cannon.
he built it himself, nicely machined, with a nice wooden base, elevation adjustment, etc. this thing fired concrete filled tennis balls.
one of the coolest things i've ever seen.
i've considered building one myself.

is this something you have plans for, or are you just gonna wing it??

I've heard stories of a man who built an attachment for his Yugo SKS's GL fitting that would launch golf balls by using blanks. That would be a great way to play. "Hmm... Par five....Jimmy, hand me that 25grain 4198 there.... "

I've wanted a 1.7" for a while. When you get the design done on that one look into an 8.5" version. Ammo for that on is also cheap and readily available.

Yup. We don't have a design, per se... But we do have a full machine shop. Should be interesting. I'm going to make some "fixed" and some "adjustable" as far as trajectory. Probably won't go for a hugely long barrel either - after all, the things are meant for golf balls...

Yeah... shooting a golf ball out of that would not be a real good idea... I shot a green apple out of one I made a number of years back, and with only 1 oz of FF it dented the daylights out of a heavy steel corn silo, the kind of dent that could only be duplicated with a 8 pound sledge hammer, now think golf ball, just not a real good idea.

Afraid 6 old #3 cans and a tennis ball with lighter fluid propellant is about the max I have attempted. However, this cornhoe morter thing...hmmmm.
