I have a Savage Anschutz Mark 10 .22 Long Rifle that has the receiver attached to it. Does anyone know how to remove it?

Does the receiver and barrel screw together?

I looked for pins and it doesn't have any that look like they would separate the two if I took the pin out. I looked at some videos but nobody had taken it that far.

Do I need some vice grips or some gunsmithing tool?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Pictures would help, i couldnt find any decent picttures of the mk10s receiver....im assuming your trying to part everything out?
You may want to post the barrel and receiver on gunbroker as a whole rather than trying to separate them. If you mar either more than a little its likely you wont get a very good selling price.

Thank you. Someone else yesterday was suggesting the same thing and honestly the last thing I want to do is separate them. I actually have the bolt, sight and rifle stock as well.

If you can assemble the rifle, sell it as a whole. Admittedly you "usually" get more by parting them out unless they are collectable, or otherwise more desirable, than your average rifle/pistol etc. It's also alot more work and if not done correctly will end up costing more time and effort than it's worth.

This post probably belongs in the "gunsmithing" section.....

The Savage Anschutz model 10 is very similar to the Anschutz model 64. It was made by Anschutz in Ulm, West Germany, imported by Savage and has one horizontal pin through the barrel and the receiver. Anschutz press fits their rimfire barrels into the receiver (receiver is probably heated some as well) and then the barrel is pinned into place. After removing the pin you'll have to get a piece of brass roughly the diameter of the bolt and either hammer or press the barrel out of the receiver. Look at the amount of peening on the brass mandrel in the first attachment. They don't come apart easily. What ever you do don't use vice grips on it or clamp it in unprotected vice jaws. Occasionally the face of the barrel and chamber can be damaged getting them apart even with the brass. I would recommend that you think twice before continuing...

I don't think it is a good idea. I believe after the barrels are press fitted cold into a heated reciever and allowed to cool, they are honed from chamber to muzzle with a special tapered burnishing lap , this is the secret to their accuracy.

Thank You. Yeah, I decided via many of you that I am going to keep the pieces together.

Thank You sir!! I will definitely not break the parts up. I will take a look at gunbrokers and see what I need to do from here. I know I have a desirable item and really just want to get rid of it and move onto the next project.

I've never removed the barrel from an Anschutz because I've never needed to but I've changed barrels on lots of other rifles and it seems to me the simplest and most efficient way with the Anschutz is to think in terms of removing action from barrel rather than vs.versa. By holding barrel in barrel vice or even shop vice, with a collar around, or even partially around barrel so that it contacts front face of receiver. (After driving pin out) tap the collar and drive receiver off barrel shank. This procedure would make it easier to heat receiver ring if necessary, and remove any chance of distorting receiver by holding it in vice or by other means. And no danger of damaging barrel face.

Why on earth would you be doing this? I saw your previous post and to have the whole gun and want to dismember it to get rid of it? It does not make sense

I do not have the whole gun. I have the barrel with the receiver attached, bolt and sight. I cannot sell that as is because of mailing issues so I was trying to capitalize on the parts. The barrel alone is an EASY sale. I do not have experience in selling guns via any sort of website, only parts that I can legally send not being an FFL. I am going to leave it together and TRY to sell it on gunbrokers.

If it's not a handgun, you can mail it. Make sure it's mailed to an FFL holder.
