I was given some 38s loaded with 100 gr dewc. Liked them for plinking close range. I want to reload but dont find any load daya. Any help

I'll have to do a little digging, but I will see what I can find. It should be mentioned that any load that you find for a 148gr wadcutter would be perfectly safe, albeit a little light. Conservatively you could probably go up 15-20% in charge weight over a 148 and be safe, with most powders. So, if the load was for say 3gr you could probably be safe taking it to 3.5gr. Do so carefully, and with caution. Handloading without published data requires lots of care.

Not sure if you have found bullets or not. I normally recommend Missouri Bullet, but they do not have 100gr WCs. If you were interested in a light 148gr DEWC I would recommend them, there is a LOT of load data for that combo. Its very light and easy to shoot too, my guess is you would be just as happy with it, and have more available data.

If you have to have the 100gr bullets, about the only place i know of with 140gr WCs is matts bullets:

So you shot those and want to replicate those or do you just want to reload for .38?
If you want to replicate those, next time, and all times, it's good to know what you're dropping the hammer on, especially were you "given loads".. even from your brother.
Are you sure they were 100 grain? 100 grain dewc's are very common in .32 and 148's are very common in .38.

I bet Certaindeaf is right and they are 148 grain.

A .358" 100 grain DEWC would be wider then it is long!

Try to recover a bullet and weigh it just to be sure.

For 90 grain JHP, Hodgdon #26 lists:
231 4.8 grains starting, 5.6 grains max
SR7625 5.2 grains starting, 5.7 grains max
PB 5.0 grains starting, 5.4 grains max
700-X 4.0 grains starting, 4.5 grains max
Trap 100 4.8 grains starting, 5.8 grains max

For 110 grain JHP:
231 4.6 grains starting, 5.2 grains max
SR7625 5.1 grains starting, 5.5 grains max
PB 4.6 rains starting, 5.0grains max
700-X 4.0 grains starting, 4.4 grains max
Trap 100 4.2 grains starting, 5.2 grains max

You can interpolate your starting and max loads between the 90 and 110 grain data.

I know Penn Bullets makes 100g DEWC's I have a box on my bench. I shot some but don't remember the load (231/HP38 maybe) and I wasn't impressed with accuracy out of my revolver (bullet quality was excellent). I would call the bullet maker or the powder manufacture and ask their advice. - gene

That's a good bullet. For .380 and 9mm too.

There's an old Lyman mold for a cute button nose 75 grain wadcutter. #358101 .
