seriously thinking about getting a vortex 6-18 tonight and just wondering who owns one and whats your serious thoughts?

I know its not great glass but I just need something for popping woodchucks out to 300yards in the beans. went out last night with my 4-12 and it was good out to 200yards but my eyes such and that little extra magnification would help me get the head shots while the beans are up.

Which Vortex?

I have a Viper 6.5X20 which is more than adequate.

I have a Nikon Buckmasters 6X18 (Before they downgraded the Buckmaster) on my .22 Hornet, and it is more than adequate as well.

Head shots on Woodchucks @ 300, that's good shooting. :)

well I figured I love my crossfire 4-12 so why not try the 6-18. glass is very clear and blows Nikon out of the water but holding it in my hand at 18x with 200yard parallax it seems finicky but ill throw it on the rifle in the morning and if its still funky see if I can exchange it for a 4-12. maybe its just the way I'm holding it.

I have 2 crossfire 6-18's

One on a .223 and the other on a .17 HMR. Very good scopes for the money

i love my 4-12 crossfire but last night looking through it at 18 through the store it appeared fine. took it home and looked across the field about 200 yards with the parallax set at 200yards and there was like a haze but it could be me shaking while holding it.
rifle will be delivered today and ill put it on just enough to get a good look through it and see.

I have 2 6x18 Crossfires. One is on a Kidd 10-22 for 50 yard bugholes.
The other is on a 20 Practical prairie dog gun. It's made 2 trips out west and has about 800 rounds thru it. It has been perfect and is my favorite of 6 PD guns. But, I rarely get to use over 12 - 14 power because of the heat mirage beyond 300 yards. I have a Nikon Monarch and a Leopold 30mm that are a little sharper, maybe, but they cost a lot more (over double).
The dead-hold reticle is sweet for dogs. You are always holding off for wind and distance and the hash marks work better for me than the BDC circles on some other scopes. I don't use dope in the field, so I don't know how repeatable the clicks are.

clicks are spot on with my 4-12. I can click it up for 200 and back for 100 and it hits where I want each time. going to pickup my rifle now and super excited to put it on and check it out.

223 bolt action. mounted it last night and I like it. cranked to 18x with 200 yard parallax looking across the field the haze I mentioned went away so must have been how I was holding it by hand.

have to get a MOA rail for it cause eye relief is a little funky.

It is tough to hold a scope by hand and get any real idea about it. Real tough.

Do you mean you need to get a picatinny or Weaver type rail for a mount for so you can adjust the scope forward or backwards from what your mount can do now?

Burris bases now are too far apart and rings sit on bell and adjustment knob. Can't move anymore. Yes a weaver rail is what I meant
