I have been influenced in both directions, both for and against, by forums. I decide for myself what fit's my needs and then seek out opinion's from owners. I try to pay attention to those folks that actually own what I'm interested in. I have changed directions more than once due to negative reviews. I pay more attention to forum members then youtube reviewers.
Absolutely. The internet research beats a sales pitch at Gander Mountain any day. Buying my first handgun I used the web to research guns and narrow it down to three choices, then went down to the range to rent them & got the one that fit the best. I knew all the major complaints about each gun, going prices, possibility of breakdowns, parts availability etc. in about three evenings without actually going to a bunch of stores. Saved me lots of aggravation and some cash too.
I got a draco ak and a saiga 5.45 after discovering them on forums. I got my cz75b, glock 22, and mossberg 500 after basically already knowing what i wanted but i used forums to hone my decision.
I live in the boondocks. It if were not for the web I'd be screwed. I'm trying to think if I got a bum steer on any of the guns I bought after reading about them in a forum. Nope, not really. There are about two I wish I hadn't bought but truth be told I blame their short comings on the luck of the draw for individual guns. And some like my older Brno rim fires are real gems.
There's an incredible fountain of knowledge here and on other sites. I'm truly grateful to those who have shared their talents, knowledge and experience.
Ruger SR1911. Never actually seen one in real life - just pics and video on the web.
Now I have one on Lay Away, after getting an email from an out of state store that they had one come in and I was next on the wait list. And I'm getting it for a much cheaper price than what you see on gunbroker, gunsamerica, etc.
I've blogged about it, started threads on it and even got a personal response email from Mike Fife (Ruger CEO) about it.
Bought my first CZ 75's because of internet buzz. Same for Savage bolt rifles and Mossberg shotguns. They proved to be among the worst guns I've ever owned.
But I've gotten lots of good advice as well. I'd have probably never tried Talley Lightweight mounts had it not been for positive comments online. I used to prefer Remington rifles, but after reading lots of positive comments I'm now convinced the Winchester is the better design. It hasn't always had the quality, but I prefer the design.
one just like this one. I was looking at the stainless steel elite sig, but the grips felt too big in my hands, and I don't have small hands. this was 1/2 the cost and just as good, when I saw a picture a forum member on the CZ forums posted, I knew I had found what I was looking for
I bought my SW M&P9 because of all the great reviews online with it and the Apex trigger parts. I didn't even pull the stock trigger once. I pulled it apart as soon as I got it and put the new parts in.
