I have just started reloading for this behemoth. I currently have 300 grain Hornady FTX Bullets and 500 Grain XTP , I have AA #(ullets. I loaded some of the 300 grainers with 36 grains of AA#9 and it seemed pretty stout but not excessively so.. I have been able to find very little load data for this bullet. As for powders I have on hand I have AA #9, 4227, 2400, unique and probably a few others that would work in this cartridge. If you have any accurate loads to recommend using what I have on hand I would appreciate it greatly.

I load for this revolver. I like ranier plated bullets with 2400 for stiff loads and trail boss for easy loads. this is one accurate gun!

Hornady has load data for this bullet in the .500 with various powders. It may only be available in their book; it was on their website at one time but I just looked and didn't find it.

Their data is on the warm side. I think they used 60K PSI as the limit rather than the 50K most others are using.

From memory, the max load for 'Lil Gun powder is close to 49 grains* with the 300 grain FTX, giving over 2000 FPS out of the standard 8 inch barrel. From experience, it's more than I really want to shoot and I backed down about 5% from that for my own use; their data table says I'm getting about 1900 FPS.
Max charge weights for 2400 and 296 were similar.

Cartridges loaded .1 grain below their listed max (individually weighed) extracted easily and had no excessive pressure signs.

* Standard disclaimer; this data is from memory and is not to be used without verification.

Thanks for the replies so far

I just tried my second hand-load with 27 grains of AA #9 under the 500 grain XTP/FP. All I can say is WOW!!!:what: I am a grain and a half under maximum and I am not sure I want to go any higher. The best part of this load was that it made the 300 grain load seem mild by comparison. All my testing thus far has been off hand at 15-25 yards so between the 4" barrel and my anticipation of recoil, I really can't speak much as to the accuracy of either load. After shooting 15 rounds of 500 S&W, I switched over to my 6 1/2" 629, 44 mag, with 200 grain RNFPs over 22 grains of 2400, it felt like I was shooting marshmallows out of an air gun.:D I am looking forward to finding some bullets in the 350-440 grain range.
