Anyone seen a new and improved R51 yet?

Hasn't Remington gone under by now?

If they could work themselves out of the debt problem that they have, they just might be able to weather the R51 storm seeing as how diversified they are in the ammo, accessories and guns of all kinds industry.

Wonder if it wouldn't be better to cut their loses, admit to a failed product, make good on the units out there and cancel the R51 before pouring more into the project. It will be interesting to watch it unfold.

I had my heart set on getting one, loved the look and thought it fit my need/want.
I handled one at the Gander Mt in Kingston, NY last spring and the slide just locked right up, it was taken in the back to the gunsmith and it never came back out. So went back to researching and finally bought a Smith & Wesson Shield, love it!

A few weeks back, I heard that anyone who bought an R51 and had it shipped back to Remington has the option (if they don't want to wait for the "improved" R51) of either receiving a refund in full, or exchange (straight-up) for an R1 1911.

I haven't read all the posts here so this announcement may have been covered. I really like the look and feel of the R51, but didn't buy one for obvious reasons, but am still interested. I contacted Remington recently and they said the "redesigned" R51 is scheduled for release the second quarter of 2015.

That appears to answer the question of when we'll see this gun, with the proviso that I have NO IDEA if Remington will keep to that ... "prediction."
They originally said October 2014 and unless a time machine is invented, it isn't going to happen.

"Anyone seen..."

No.

"I kinda think "improved R51" is an oxymoron"
Why? Because there is no room to improve, or because it cannot be improved? Both are clearly false statements. "Remington perfected" may be an oxymoron, however.

After seeing how they they are designed and made, and the materials they used.........I would never own one regardless of how cool I think they look.
There are too many other guns that are actuallly good designs and well made..and they work.

Three flawless boxes through mine, today...Not 'nice' guns by any stretch, but the design does work well. At least when properly executed. Pretty much just that last part.

With the troubles Remington is now facing concerning issues with the Model 700 series rifles, I would take them up on the one for one exchange and accept the offer of the .45
I'm not so sure Remington is going to be a functioning company by the second quarter of 2015.

If they are offering an R1 I would say TAKE IT! They are well made, accurate, quality guns. I have the Enhanced model and am very pleased.

Not really, if you think about it the R51 is VERY low bar to make "new and improved". If the spring doesn't fall out every round it will be improved. :neener:

Well, I happen to already have the 1911 R1 model so I really don't want or need another.
I agree that Remington really needs to get its act together, but I am not so pessimistic as you are. I think they'll survive long enough to get the R-51s back out........ how much longer ... I dunno.:scrutiny::confused:

The materials were fine. The design as well. It was in the manufacturing processes the gun suffered. In fact many people found the R-51 did actually work.
However there seemed to be a common problem with short chambered, and insides that looked like they'd been machined out by a gorilla with a hand axe.
