Heard some guys talking about this at a recent match I attended. They raved and told me I *had* to try it.

Did some searching and watched a bunch of videos. I have never been one to buy into gimmicky techniques like this, but it does look interesting.

They have a new product coming out in May called "Mantis X10" that looks even more interesting.

Anyone around here seen/used this?

MIght be worth the investment, especially the new X10 variant.

Not trying to be a smart*** but I just use a target. I look at things like this as future clutter.

What can this do for that concentration on your shooting technique cannot?

In theory, it could provide feedback that you could otherwise only get from a knowledgeable instructor. At a glance at their website it wouldn't do a thing for Jerry Miculek, but it might help a novice identify bad habits they didn't know they had.

Haven't used it myself, but going to watch this thread to see if anyone has.

I considered the mantis for my daughter’s training but ended up with the Scatt MXW2. https://www.scatt.com/scatt-mx-w2
It’s the most expensive thing I’ve ever bought gun related but has helped her immensely.

Ouch! That *is* PRICEY! Hopefully it helped her!

It is supposed to be able to identify micro movements that occur in the microseconds around the shot (before/after) to help you identify whether you are pushing, jerking, too much trigger finger, etc. Not sure (as you mention) how much more info you get than you would from a target, but it is definitely an interesting idea.

Watching videos of the device helps see the power.

The new X10 variant (not yet released) is more for competition shooters and tracks all aspects of your draw, multiple shots (rapid fire analysis), transitions, movements, etc. It can become a VERY sophisticated shot timer telling you how long each aspect of your draw is taking rather than just the time from the beep to the first trigger pull.

I am mildly interested, but only in the X10 at this point.

Not trying to be a smart*** but my target doesn't help me much when I dry fire practice. ;)
I've looked closely at these a few time in the past to aid in dry fire practice but most of my firearms don't have a rail to attach to. With the new one tracking draws and other movements I will have to take another look.

I love the Mantis X for dry-fire practice at home. I can only get to the range at most 2x-3x/week and some weeks even less. Funny how well I shoot some pistols and others I tend to slap the trigger > 50% of the time according to the Mantis. I'm darned if it doesn't correlate with what happens at the range! Definitely got my money's worth out of it.

I just ordered the magazine attachment for one of my guns to practice with holster draws. Since I ordered the Mantis X10 Elite version, the device itself doesn't ship until May.
