I have a 12 gauge Ithaca Model 37 with serial number 371539365 and would like to know when it was made. Also, I think that there is a barrel difference before and after serial number 855,000. Is there any way to tell if a barrel will fit my gun without actually trying it?

Any post-855,000 barrel (in the same gauge
) will fit your gun with no modifications.
The visual way to tell the difference between pre- and post-855,000 barrels is that the pre-855,000 are individually serial numbered to the gun they were originally fitted to. The serial number will be found on the right side of the barrel, over the chamber area. Post-855,00 barrels have no serial numbers on them.
