AR-10 barrel nut fitment

I'm building an Aero M5 (standard, not -A1) and using Aero's Atlas handguard and barrel nut. The barrel nut bottoms out on the receiver when I thread it in... or, actually, it hits both the barrel flange AND the receiver at, basically, the same timing. When I go to torque this thing down, it will be against both the barrel AND the receiver. Is that correct?

Edit: it is a Ballistic Advantage barrel.

Not sure about the m5, but I built an upper or two with the aero atlas handguard on a standard and m4e1 upper. I dont recall the nut bottoming out before torque was achieved. I used an aero barrel (ballistic advantage), and Daniel defense. Remember, the handguard kit should come with shims that will allow you to clock the nut so that the gas tube will have passage over the nut and that also keeps the flats for the taper lock pieces aligned properly. At least on the standard ar uppers. I think my torque was in the neighborhood of 45 to 55 ft lbs.

Yea... no shims in the box... I checked. The AP instructions say there is, but not mine.

Actually, I finally figured out it was not bottoming against the receiver... almost, but not quite... the tolerances are that close. It does, however, overclock for the gas tube... torqued between 35-60 lb/ft. I'll have to see if Aero will send me some... or buy some.

You might have missed them. Did you throw away the thin white closed cell foam material that was wrapped around the barrel nut? They are usually taped to that or wrapped up inside of the foam. They are very thin and easy to miss if you do not know to look for them ahead of time.
