I started this topic last time I went to the range and first experienced the cycling issue with a newly put together AR 15.

http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=704814

Basically I have a new AR 15, 20 inch barrel, and it does not cycle the bolt back far enough to pickup the next round - in other words it is - short stroking. I tried factory ammo since the above issues. With factory ammo Remington UMC it cycled great. With wolf steel case it would short stroke it also did so on my reloads. I also had a stage model 3 with us and confirmed it cycled fine with the reloads that the newer AR woukd not. Basically right now I am pretty sure that I need a different weight buffer to make it cycle properly. Can anyone tell me if a heavier or lighter weight buffer would be better?

find out who made the barrel and what size they drilled the gas port hole.or,depending what
you have on the front(orig site or gas block),the hole maybe not lined up correctly.if its a gas block that you put on,take it off and check inside for proper hole to hole mating.might have to use a tapered deburring tool on the barrel hole.might also have to open up the gas hole a few thousanths

What dia should the proper gas port hole size be? I did not build the upper just the lower. The upper is from Rguns. Also why do you not think it is a buffer issue? Finally what is the best way to ensure the holes line up, should I take it apart?

Contact Rguns. In the meantime, skip the underpowered Wolf and stick with the Remington ammo. What reloads are you shooting?

I had several:
55g IMR 4198 18.5g
55g IMR 4198 18.2g
55g IMR 4198 18.0g
55g IMR 4064 23.6g

What should I ask R-Guns when air call them?

Also, if it is a gas port issue why would it cycle with factory ammo fine?

Ask them if they guarantee their uppers for Wolf.

Your reloads may not be providing proper pressure curve and giving enough gas to cycle the bolt. Try 24.0gr of Accurate 2015 with those 55ers. That load provides plenty of gas to operate all my ARs reliably.

Good luck

Check the rings and the gas key. Make sure the rings are good. Stand the bolt and carrier on end. If the carrier falls the rings are bad.

Check the gas key to make sure it is staked down good and tight.

Anyone have a link to proper gas key, ring/bolt assembly?

Mookiie these are all barely starting loads. Tip that can a little, son.

You already said it runs fine with Remington factory ammo, but won't cycle reliably with underpowered Wolf and your underpowered handloads. Can't you figure this out?

Shoot full power Nato pressure ammo or at least increase your powder charge. My manuals show a full charge of 4198 (20.5 gr) still only generates ~48,600 psi and a full charge of 4064 (25.5 gr) only generates ~49,800 psi. These powders even at max load are too slow.

You need to try my original suggestion (24.0 grains of 2015) and stop dinkin' with your gas system (it ain't broke) and give it more useable gas pressure.

M1Key thanks I will make the next reload a little heavier and see if that helps. I will also keep my eye out for some 2015.
