AR 15 mags

No way, you need at least 60 PER GUN, And thats just for the combat load.

I have 10 P mags and 40 other types, I don't use half of them.

Depends on what you doing with the AR.

I keep 6-10 good GI mags for plinking, 3 gun, home defense, etc.

If i were serious about SHTF i would keep another 10-20 Pmags.

I will let .mil or .leo speak about combat needs.

In order for me to maintain enough magazines for a normal "combat loadout", I have to have upwards of 20 magazines, being that I can only have a max of 15 round mags here...

I feel bad with only 3 mags, but hey, at $30 a pop I'm not jumping up and down to go buy a ton of these mags...

I think I have about 140 usgi mags and 40 or so pmags.

This is probably more than I need, but it is enough that I don't have to think about it and when one gives me issues it gets thrown away.

Having lived through the bad old days of the 94 AWB, I have a somewhat irrational drive to squirrel away magazines.

In all honesty, I only use about a half dozen magazines with any regularity. I suppose you could figure that since standard 20 and 30 rounders are cheap, there's nothing wrong with having enough for regular use, plus backups you can cycle in when the mags you use regularly wear out or break.

For specialty magazines, like the Tripp Cobramags or Surefire quadstacks, they're expensive enough that it may not be worth buying extras.

As for USGI mags vs. PMAGS, so long as the USGI magazines are in good shape, they'll run just as well as the PMAGs in just about any situation.

I like to have at least 12 for each rifle plus a couple spares.

OTOH, I also keep ~1000 rounds on clips so I can load mags quickly.

Remember, Thermold and Magpul both have told us that mags are disposable and wear out. lol

I plan on having 25-30 loaded mags and two .50 ammo boxes of bandoleers with stripper clips. Run out? Not if I can help it. ;)

If you have to ask, the correct answer is "not enough."

I only have about 15-20 and 4 are 22 caliber.

I've got 31 p-mags; Is that enough?

In 1994 it sure wasn't!

In 2006 I wasn't worrying about such things.

In 2012+, who knows? Personally I've laid in what I consider a lifetime supply because I'm retiring soon and won't be buying any more mags at shortage or post-ban prices on my soon to be fixed income.

How many is enough? well that is a question with different answers per individual. However i think we could all agree that you can NEVER HAVE TOO MANY!

I have prob over 100 mags 30 rnd GI 20 rnd GI Magpuls

1 surefire 60rnd which i really suprisingly like

and 1 beta (for no apparent reason other than its american and damnit i could)

I've only got 6 pmags, 2 Colt 30's, 2 Colt 20's, a couple of 5 rounders, 2 C-products black stainless mags and 4 C-products aluminum 30 rounders in the plastic.

That's 18 total. I need to get a few more 20 rounders, maybe 2 more pmags.

I donated some mags to another Mod here or I'd have more. Robert.. have you used those C-products black stainless mags in a match?

Remember, Thermold and Magpul both have told us that mags are disposable and wear out. lol

That's because all magazines are ultimately disposable. I don't care if it's made of plastic, aluminum, steel, or unobtanium. If you run your rifle hard, you're running your magazines hard, too. Drop a magazine enough times, and it's going to get damaged eventually.

when i was shooting ARs a lot, before I switched my time and money to this precision bolt gun thing... I was using both pmags and GI. I would run about 10 of each for a year and manage to break about 2-3 of each.

I started with I think 100 D&H and prob 70+ pmags, and I don't know what I'm down to now. I wind up giving away quite a few to new shooters and broke local college kids whose guns aren't running well.

Otoh, magpul gives away a mag to every competitor at a lot of competitions like Steel Safari and rifles only. So I've picked up a few too. and when i was going through my "i need to duracoat EVERYTHING" phase, i had to get pmags in all the different colors too

like justin, that clinton gun ban was pretty annoying. I intend to keep what I figure would be a lifetime supply at my current rates.

How many do you need?
Like we used to say in the navy
How many sailors can fit into a liberty boat? One more.

And we've been limited by other stupid laws. Stay alive, drive 55.

Fear mongering is exactly why we had the Obamascare.

If you don't have at least 300 mags stacked and ready at windows and sniper holes, you are just another Ruby Ridge waiting to happen, ya know.

Keep the family indoors, and don't let the dog out. You do wear your plate protector mowing the grass, right? Or does the neighbor kid do it, and you toss him the money?

Those shotgun, lever and revolver guys are so pwned, no mags at all. They'll be first.

Tighten up that cobra buckle and hunker down, it's a-coming.
