AR-15 or AR-10 why buy one or the other?

I had the opportunity (and the money) to get both a Bushmaster Carbon-15 in .223, AND a Winchester Model 70 in .270. The Model 70 was pre-owned, and very well cared for. The Bushmaster is loaded with 75 grain TAP for close-in work. (50 yards or less) I'd use the .270 if I wanted to "reach out and touch someone". I shoot 130 grain HP in it. For myself, personally, I'd not consider the .223 a hunting round for anything other than "varmints".

I have currently a Olympic stripped upper and grizzly stripped lower with Dpms 5.56 barrel 14.5 inch. The grizzly says "multi-cal" mod above the magwell. I did a two stage rra trigger, titanium bolt, rra ambidextrous safety,b.a.d lever, and magpul miad grip, trigger guard, the stock is bushmaster,I also got the accu wedge and d-fense d-ring.accu wedge takes out slop between receivers perfectly and the d-ring goes on the extractor spring. The quad hand guard is YHM and I put a magpul angle foregrip and smith NATO 556 brake. Lighter than a 1911.

You might want to also consider a good FN/FAL rifle too. Similar ergonomics, bigger caliber ammo user and dependable to a fault. Mount a tactical scope or red dot on top of a FAL and you have something that does a pretty good job. After all, the FAL was called, "The backbone of the free world." and it was used by numerous western armies against the ones who had the AK-47 rifles.

Wasn't the FAL actually called 'The right arm of the Free World' and Sergeants 'The backbone of the Army'?

Well, as long as we're mixing metaphors - "Pair off in threes, then line up in a circle, alphabetically by height." :D

.308 is about 30% more costly to shoot, but does that make a huge difference for most of us? I shoot very leisurely and take my time, usually spotting each round as I fire it and I find that I rarely go through more than 50 rounds in an hour and a half or even 2 hours of shooting by the time you figure in target changes, taking a break to heed the call of nature, etc. So for me it is the difference of spending $15 vs. $18-20 for an afternoon of shooting. Sure, it adds up, but not enough for me to make (or not make) a purchase.

Of course the only right answer is get both.
