Has anyone heard any rumors about companies who manufacture AR-15 rifles, already being told by the government to stop making AR-15 rifles? Had a friend call tonight and tell me he had heard rumor of this, so I thought I would check THR to see if anyone else had heard anything along these lines. I hope no one has, and that my friend is wrong on this, and that it is a wrong rumor. Thanks for the info.

If I ran a legal company and the government told me to halt production I'd give them the finger and tell them to talk to my lawyer.

Rumors are rumors...this country is still under the rule of law and the government can't just force you to quit making a legal product just because they don't like it.

Let me guess.. the same person who spouted this piece of info had a bottom dollar AR for sale in the couple thousands range.

I've been following the whole situation pretty closely and haven't heard anything about the govt. telling rifle manufactures to stop building rifles...I know alot of things happen under the table but that is one thing that I think would be reported even by a lame main stream media. However, I did hear a report yesterday on the radio that a couple lesser known arms companies (I can't remember their names) have been denied loans by their bank (Bank of America I believe) because they manufacture guns. I'm wondering if maybe your friend got a twisted version of this report.

this is just as stupid as that rumor that the govt was going to mandate primers that went inert after X number of years to prevent stockpiling

Yes, now buy my $900 AR for $3500! I'm guessing this is the source of the rumor. The government would have no basis for telling any of them to stop.

No company is going to stop producing given the current demand, unless there is legit legal power to stop them.

The reality is an AWB is unlikely. Even some of the Senators who were seemingly calling for it before are now predicting its failure. Guys like Manchin. Some of these politicians that came out and showed their true colors seem to have felt the pressure of constuents and lobbying groups and some have done notable turn arounds. Even some of those Democrats that salivate for gun control laws such as Rep Cummings from MD are tempering expectations and have said they doubt there will be an AWB.

The House still looks like a near impossible hurdle. The Senates is starting to look tougher once again too.

I'm not sure an AWB is even going to see much of a push. I think the real fight will end up being over magazines. And the toughest fight might be in preserving face to face sales.

I know (thanks to THR) that WalMart was supposedly urged to stop selling AR's by Schumer, just to wait and see how the new proposed legislation turns out.

That's about it, though.

It is true for the ones who have government contracts, they probably negotiated a deal to raise the prices of the AR15's they produce for the government in return to stop selling them in the civilan market.

There hasnt been an AR15 NIB for sale for awhile in any gun shops, doesnt that sound a little fishy?

Ill bet most of the AR15 manufacturers are limiting sales to the civilan market and selling to LEO and military now.

The AR15 manufactureres would be hiring more people to build AR15's and increasing productivity, they are losing sales the longer they are back ordered.

False.

Again, false. There are NIB ARs in gunshops...they don't exactly stay there long in most cases, because they are getting snapped up as soon as they hit the rack. Also in many cases a shop's shipment of ARs is spoken for before it arrives.

Ill bet most of the AR15 manufacturers are limiting sales to the civilan market and selling to LEO and military now.

False. Why the hell would they do that? So long as they are legal to sell to us they will. Also the only military makers are FN and Colt. FN doesn't sell their rifles to us but Colt does (although they supply M-16s to the .mil and AR-15s to us) and you can still get Colts (with the caveat that again, most are either sold as soon as they hit the sales floor or are spoken for before they arrive at the gunshop). LE agenies account for only a small part of the gun market, they don't buy them like candy. Most ARs are going into our hands, just like before the panic.

The AR15 manufactureres would be hiring more people to build AR15's and increasing productivity, they are losing sales the longer they are back ordered.

Most of your AR makers aren't huge. They have limited manufacturing capability. While this is fine during normal times, these are anything but normal times. You don't just "increase productivity" or train skilled workers at the snap of a finger. Machinery takes time to be ordered and delivered and workers take time to be trained unless you just want a bunch of drunken monkeys assembling rifles (Century has that market cornered though). You also don't just take those significant steps to temporarily increase production to meet a very temporary demand...otherwise once the market is satisfied again, then you've got excess tooling/production and excess staff plus possibly be stuck in a credit bind where you need to make payments to the bank but can't.

It's true. Obama ordered gun companies to stop making guns.
Congress is going to order confiscations.
Bin Laden is not dead.
George Bush caused 9/11

All male first born children under 5 y.o. will be killed tonight.

Laugh all you want fellas......... I happen to know for a fact its 100 percent true.

Anyone want to but a stripped lower for $800:neener:

BushyGuy:
The fact is, AR's sell as fast as gun shops can get them in stock. It has everything to do with unprecedented demand, and NOTHING to so with companies "restricting" sales to gov. Sometimes, the facts are exactly what they seem to be, no conspiracy needed.

NO , but if I were to be thinking of banning certain guns (cough), I would start by sending agents to all shops telling them 'in a certain way' , to not sell the guns. Tell them some trash like...the Russians er, excuse me, the AWB is coming, we're telling you now so you know, and you WILL be closed down pending (cough) ''investigation''.
To add weight for the 'non compliant shops', start looking at book work scrutinize inventories...all by Inventory Specialist level3 Vladmir, 70yrs young with the hearing problem and very thick glasses:what:
And there is an infinite amount of existing rubles er,hehe excuse me I meant rules to do it, now. Press conference if needed would be, ''possible sales linked to crime in area and thorough invest is necessary'' or ''routine paperwork exam, hyped by current events; don't fear''.
Lawsuits for same are always solved....later. Much later. Like after the AWB

Easier to stop the sales and collect at one or two points of firearms flow, warehouse, LGS versus going out amongst the (cough) polite & compliant publik and gather them up.

That's what I would've done (past tense)(too late now) if in fact I were to ban any type of guns

An untruth, no matter how preposterous, told often enough, becomes the truth.

Also keep in mind that there are only a handful of company's that make lowers and uppers -- If Spikes/Colt/Armalite/whoever do not have lowers/uppers that can not make products.

The companies that make the uppers/lowers just can not increase production for the reason given above -- lack of machines capability and trained workforse.

Most successful companies are working at 100% capabililty -- and in times like these they just can not increase production to meet demand, I am sure they want to.

The gun companies are not in this because they are our friends or necessarily support the Second Amendment except as it affects their bottom line. The motivation for selling these things is to make money. Unless it is codified in law that the manufacture and distribution of these rifles is patently illegal they will continue to make them.

Unless of course they decide that their greater good (Dick's Sporting Goods) will be served by catering to the mainstream or liberal public.

That is why WE need to become the defacto voice!!!!!

Email, write, call, and visit your political representatives and vote. also support the businesses that support the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Second Amendment.

Stop this one right now!

Quash this one right here and right now! It'll only get re-posted, repeated and gain its own authenticity through the weight of repetition.

Between myself and nearly a dozen business and personal friends with whom I'm in near daily conversation - THERE HAS BEEN NO INTIMATION FROM THE GOVERNMENT REGARDING ANY REQUESTED CESSATION, SLOWED LICENSING OR ANY OTHER FORM OF HARASSMENT/COERCION DIRECTED AT MANUFACTURERS!!!!

Letting this one continue will only add to the consumer's consternation in acquiring rifles and componentry.

My company makes size 47 metric widgets, and the Feds are gonna outlaw them. They've already been into my factory and told me to get ready for a shutdown. Yeah, right.

First, without sufficient cause and legal documentation, they don't get past the front door to tell me anything. Second, they need Congress to pass a bill prohibiting the manufacture of size 47 metric widgets, for that bill to be signed into law, for that law to overcome the legal injunction I'm going to file, and so on.

Meantime, you guys better come and get your share of my size 47 metric widgets while you still can. Don't mind the high price; you'll be glad you have them when nobody else can get one.
