For complete uppers that are built with better parts than most (and are still affordable), I like CMMG. You can do better, but not in their price range. I've also had OK but not stellar results from DelTon uppers.
I use Global Tactical and Bravo Company USA a lot for parts.
Bravo Company makes a nice carbine upper, and it seems like a good value for the money when you consider the mil-spec features you get. I'd like to buy one but they seem to be out of stock.
For complete uppers I've had good luck with the following:
CMMG - Their main selling point is the variety they offer, with 1:7 rifling available in most configurations PK Firearms - has been a great supplier, and usually has a good selection of Bushmaster uppers Model 1 Sales - has a good variety and quick shipping; not top of the line, but they can make good rifles Fidelis Firearms - is a good source if you want a Colt upper
Over time I've heard much about others, but I limited my references to those from whom I have purchased satisfactory uppers. If you decide to purchase an upper from one of the first three, you ought to consider getting it without a bolt carrier group (BCG) and then get yourself an LMT or BCM BCG from Bravo Company or Denny's/GTS.
Another plus for Legal transfers (ar15sales.com). Call pete and he will take good care of you. the best thing is if you have any problems he will make it right!
