AR-7 issues

Took a AR-7 to the range for the first time this weekend. It was one that my father-in-law gave to me. First shot wouldn't eject. Cleared it up and repeated, same thing. A little lube and it progressively got a bit better but still wouldn't fire, eject and feed the next round. Seemed to not want to toss the empty out completely. Ejector seemed ok, tension wise but maybe a bit worn on one edge. Possible problem I know. wanted to watch the cycle so firing from the hip i tried it. same thing. tried again and it went full-auto on me for a few shots. Put it away and went back to the 10/22's. Anyone else have problems with this model? Any ideas. I'd just as soon trade it off (got offered $75 bucks) but where it was a gift from FIT, I know he'll ask about it and be irked if I sell it off.

try replacing the ejector. Also try using HV ammo.

Had lots of feeding problems with mine that seem to be magazine related. Buddy of mine had the same problem but a new mag cleared it up for him. Never had an ejection problem or had it go full auto yet.

I had one that is made by Henry Repeating Arms, I believe the current makers, it had similar problems and I sent it back twice.

Got it back the second time and still had the same problems. I ended up talking with Anthony Imperato, the CEO of Henry Repeating Arms and he offered a replacement of the AR7 or opting to send me one of their lever action .22 rifles.

I asked for the lever action rifle and he sent me a beautiful rifle with a smooth as glass action. I couldn't have been happier with Henry rifles.

Of course this was all done at their expense.

I know yours is probably made by the original makers, but thought I'd share my experience with my AR7. HTH

I picked up a second-hand one (mfg by Charter Arms), oh, heck, gotta be more than 25 years ago. Haven't relly fired it too much (or too recently), but it did have feedway stoppages when I first tried it; tinkered with the 8-round mag a bit, and no further problems. I later purchased a 25-round mag (mfg unknown), and it's 100% reliable out of the wrapper.

2 notes:
1) I used HV rounds (CCI Mini Mags) for "regular shootin' chores", so standard velocity rounds might well prove less reliable re: positive ejection.

2) Most of my shootin' is with CCI Maxi Caps! No, they won't cycle the action, but they are QUIET out of the 16+" bbl. The AR-7 ain't accurate enough for really effective vermin removal (starlings, etc.), but it is small & light enough to keep right at hand.

I suddenly feel the urge to dig it out of the safe & play a bit . . .

Funny but I've heard that they have the best AR-7 made.

Is it the original 8 round magazine or a Hi-cap after market one. Most of those won't work.
