I have a 16" DPMS Lo-Pro upper and a Roggio receiver.

I did a function test today because I just bought it off a guy and it would load a round, fire, but fail to cycle completely. I would have to manually cycle the bolt to chamber another round.

That was using winchester brass rounds but with wolf steel case the rounds would lodge into the chamber after being fired. It was a BEAR to extract them. In fact, there is a spent casing lodged into the chamber right now that I just gave up on. The case I pulled out before it had a long strip down it where the coating was completely scrapped away from dragging it out of the chamber.

My cousin had another upper for his AR so we took the upper off of mine and put his on my lower. We put my bolt in his upper and it wouldn't cycle but with his bolt it did cycle. When we used his upper, with my bolt, and my Roggio lower it would fire and strip a round but would not extract the round from the chamber forcing the bullet tip into the primer of the spent case still in the chamber. With his upper and bolt on my lower it functioned perfectly using both the winchester and wolf ammo.

We then put my lo-pro upper back on with his bolt but it wouldn't cycle properly. When I put my bolt, upper, and lower back on I fired two rounds of winchester that I had to manually cycle and then there were two rounds of wolf. One fired but it lodged in the chamber and that's where I am right now.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

What's new? :neener: Check the carrier key, the extractor, and the chamber. You may have to pound the stuck case out with a WOOD dowel. Clean the heck out of it (especially the chamber) and lube it up. Does the carrier move freely or feel like it is binding on something? Also, I wouldn't worry about the Wolf issue (but the chamber needs cleaned b/c of the steel case)...some rifles (not just ARs) just don't like commie crap. Winchester (white box I assume) is great stuff, in the same league with Federal & Lake City IMO. Best of luck, Mav. :)

never-mind... I actually found a posting on this that has all the info I need at least for tonight. Thanks...

Any mod can delete this thread... I posted it in haste and didn't look for other postings.

Not sure, I just typed in "ar troubleshooting" and there came up a good bit of information.

Sounds like the problem I am having is in the gas system but no matter. I got a hold of the guy and he is taking the AR back.

No need to toy with this... I got it for fun not to slay the U.S. military, our present administration, to prepare for the future illuminati takeover, or even to hunt with... it was a toy but it's gone now.

Thanks.

Welcome to the world of AR-15's!

Your rifle will fail at some point. Note that the word "will" is used and not "maybe". Please also note that it will fail again. And again. And again. To prevent this please clean your rifle, lubricate it, and clean it some more. Be prepared to take up cleaning as a sort of second hobby. Also you will need some gun-smithing know-how. Don't worry! There are plenty of other guys who's AR's have failed them and who can tell you how to fix any problem you'll have! Trust me, you weren't the first to have it, and you won't be the last!

sounds like another DPMS owner...

funny how my AR15s aren't failing again and again and again...

This is why AR's get such a bad reputation. If you have one that doesn't work reliably it is almost always related to some broken, poorly made, or out of spec part. Sure you can clean and lube the heck out of it and probably get it to work for a little while. Alternatively, you could figure out what the problem is and fix it. And once you do that, it will work quite well for you clean or dirty with just a little bit of lube.

Note the sarcasm in my posts, while I do like to rag on the AR guys a bit, I don't believe that they have any problems functioning reliably if properly built and maintained (like most anything else), however they are cleaning/lubing intensive. :)

Actually I found a guy with a pre-ban Maadi Ak that wants to sell it for a good price... supposedly never been fired.

The guy is picking this AR up on Saturday and then I am going right over the other guys place and pick up the AK to mess around with. It is cheaper, comes with more stuff, and is a heck of a good buy not too mention piston operated and known for reliability.

AR's aren't my bag.

Turns out the guy gave me a the wrong BCG in the AR and the bull's have to be head spaced at DPMS.

I have the right bolt in it now and it functions perfect.
