I had one of those, had. It was nice but there are better options out there for around the same price as that one or even less.

This is the AR I have and it is fantastic, Daniel Defense makes one of the best AR's on the market and their customer service is exemplary! It has everything you would expect in a top tier AR for a very reasonable price.

Another good option would be any Colt AR.

You can find brand new Colt AR-15's for around $1,000 now. Between a Bushmaster and Colt for about the same price I would take a Colt without thinking twice.

Also don't overlook the S&W M&P15, they are very nice high quality AR's and the price on them is almost impossible to beat. You can get a new M&P15 for under $900 and S&W often has special deals to go with them if you purchase one.

The only problem with "building it the way I want" is I am new to ARs. I have NO idea what I want. lol just a good shooting rifle that is decent, and I know will last. It would be nice to have a decent scope or sights setup too.

That's actually to your benefit, you get to learn as you go. You get to pick what you want for the rifle and learn how to remove old components and install the new one, as opposed to paying for something someone else thought needed to go on the rifle and that you have no experience with. Colt's are awesome, I love my 6920. I agree with others, I wouldn't pay $1500+ for a Stag with a bunch of fancy tactikool goodies on it. Buy a BCM lower and upper, FCG and BCG, slap that stuff together and upgrade as your needs allow, have the appreciation of having done it yourself, and be better educated on how to troubleshoot any issues that may arise. Colt's are oustanding and even Bushmaster would be fine it sounds like for your purposes, many LEO use them as patrol rifles.
