Other than weapon familiarity is there any benefits to an ar style 22 when compared to old fashioned 22's?

Basically i'm asking this, I currently have many 22 rifles. Is there an area these shine to justify a new purchase?

I have a 22LR AR-15 that is a copy (20" barrel, A2 configuration) of my Service Rifle Match Rifle.

It made for cheap practice when 22LR was cheap.

I have used one in A2 configuration and loved it for hunting. I was young can't remember brand, but its was so nice having that carry handle while walking around hunting, wasn't bad heavy etc....then I graduated to a rem nylon 66 Apache everything seemed heavy after that until I started shooting paper LOL

I have the softest spot in my heart of hearts for rimfire the good ole 22lr dang if someone or some people are not trying their best to ruin the 22lr, if a presidential candidate could promise me 22lr back in stock at local retailers they would get my vote !!

I've played around with the S&W M&P15-22 and found it to be a really fantastic rifle. Basically giving you the great ergonomics and ease of use of the M-4 in a trainer/plinker.

As wonderful and nostalgic as the older style of .22s are, it is hard to argue against the benefits of the modular, flexible, adaptable AR pattern, especially for newer, younger, and smaller shooters who don't have the old blued & steel aesthetics worn into their minds.

Short answer is no.

FAIL.

Obviously, when you are talking benefits, you are talking subjective items as they apply to your uses and needs.

To most shooters, there are quite a few benefits, including:

-They are fun.

-They are easy to break-down for transport (by separating upper from lower). Obviously, some specialized rifles like the 10/22 Takedown share this trait.

-The ergonomics are more easily adaptable than most .22LR rifles.

-I have also found that my CMMG .22LR AR-15 upper is more accurate than most off-the-shelf semi-auto .22LR rifles I've ever fired, including the Marlin 60, Ruger 10/22, Remington 552 Speedmaster, or Thompson /Center R55, among others.

-With the possible exception of the Ruger 10/22, aftermarket support for the .22LR AR-15s is unsurpassed.

If he has .22's he's already happy with, aside from simply wanting an AR type .22, there's really no tangible reason to buy one. I have one, its ok. I still prefer my Rem 510. Your mileage may vary.

I had a Sig 522, which was a great 22lr Ar style rifle. It was accurate with a red dot sight , fairly rugged. Very reliable. I had one with the new swiss style stock which was an upgrade from the old style. Takes Black dog mags which are cheap and easy to get.

The only reason I sold it, is that I mostly shoot steel plates and 22lr is just not powerful enough to always know down the plates.

I would buy one again.

I have two ar-15/22's.. Two different models.. Both my remaining safe queens.

Sooner or later, I will get around to selling them. I prefer the regular style of rifle.

Useless: Maybe to me; some will enjoy the crap out of them. There's also the .22LR conversion bolts to consider..

Cost effective in training expenses. Same firearm with same controls with the only difference being super scarce 22 LR.
