I am moving an optic off of my AR and onto another gun. What I currently have is an Sig Romeo MSR. I love the optic except for the dial on/off. I want shake awake for a defensive gun. I’m looking for recommendations.

Ive got a Holosun set up for my sub2k and my dad has a Riton on his 556.
Very happy with the glass quality, dot image, and reliability on both. Both are shake awakes, I believe the holosun was about 300, and the Riton was like 80 on sale.

I have a Crimson Trace red dot on SWMBO's HD AR. She has instructions to not worry about turning it on if in a hurry, just center the thing on the attacker's chest and fire, repeat if necessary. Max range in the house is 7 yards.

I'm a total fan boy for the SIG red dots. I know I have over a dozen of them. The Romeo5 is way better than its price suggests but I also really like the 4's and 7's. Prefer the shake awake feature and push button controls. However, as of late, I'm going more and more with micro prisms. I have another Primary Arms 3x being delivered today.

Budget? I have a couple Romeo 5's, they're OK but I get some starbursting on both. Really not a big deal unless you're attempting to shoot tiny groups at distance, which is difficult with any red dot.

I also have a Romeo 4H that I really like, dot is clear as a bell on that one. Those are the only 2 I've had experience with that have the shake awake feature.

I made a couple deals today and found the money to go support my favorite local shop. Romeo 5 was in stock. I still think they are a bit ugly, but for the purpose it will serve beauty is far from being a priority.

Craig which 3x did you get?

I've tried a couple and this is the only one that worked for me. Not saying it is BEST because I haven't tried a lot. But I do like this one. And I've found nothing cheaper that interests me. It is shake awake with 30,000-50,000 hour battery life. 30,000 hours is over 4 years if it stayed on continuously. I plan to change batteries about every other year just to be safe.

They are available in Red or Green dots. You can have just a dot, just a circle or a dot inside the circle. I preferred green even though it is about $30 more, and have mine set for the dot inside the circle.

Romeo 5 with clip on magnifier for sighting in on an original M&P sport is at rest next to me

I've been wanting to try one of those as an Eotech alternative.

I don't have a self defense carbine but my SIL does. His has some model of Sig red dot. I have shot the gun and it works well. Sorry I don't have a model number but I wasn't that interested.

I had an Aimpoint micro T1 that was top notch. Aimpoint takes it serious. I have an old russian kobra. That thing is pretty good too. Lots of tint on the collimatimg lense, but the dot is like 1.8 MOA, and it is a quality unit I think. You can use the bindon concept with both eyes at night so it doesnt matter.

LPVOs are the way. The only cons are weight and cost. The only reason I don’t own more than one is cost. One day I’ll have an NX8 to keep my K16i company.

I will say if you’re budget is a Strike Eagle stick with an RDS.
