Nope, recent production S&B brass cases- although its perfectly possible that the previous owner left some lacquer or other funk in the chamber. Is it possible he was shooting any old steel cased lacquered rounds? There was a big problem with the lacquer melting in the chamber as the gun heats up due to rapid fire. This was well known to cause this type of jam. The perp was old Wolf and Brown Bear rounds produced in Russia.
Lesson learned, he bought a good, AR-specific cleaning kit. I did give him some better magazines, though. The ones that came with the gun were SCARY.It sounds like your buddy needs to be treated like Private Snuffy and given the correct training on how to maintain his rifle. Whether you go into drill sergeant mode or not is up to you.
I know, right......The fact that it is a Radical Firearms brand and it runs is kind of scary. I bet it is minute of soda can at 50 yards if he is lucky.
This is SOP at my range, the ROs taught me, always works. Don't do it in the house, and point it at blue sky.Stand the rifle up. And bang in on a table top on the but end of the stock. While pulling the charging handle. It may take a few times. But it will un-jam.
For all the hate ive read on Radicals both of mine ran like tops, and even after having the grendel barrel turned down it still shot moa or better. The fact that it is a Radical Firearms brand and it runs is kind of scary. I bet it is minute of soda can at 50 yards if he is lucky.
My 10.5" Radical upper ran good too. It just would not shoot worth a darn. It patterned like a 12 gauge buckshot load at 50 yards. For all the hate ive read on Radicals both of mine ran like tops, and even after having the grendel barrel turned down it still shot moa or better.
Barrels looked like cheese graters and that's without a bore scope lol.
Lisle automotive tool. part # 35260 - plastic fastener remover. You can buy them at OReillys for 14-15 dollars. It comes with a sliding rubber ball on the shaft to be nonmarring and give you a good fulcrum point on the front of the mag well. The forks fit right in front of the bolt carrier and will dislodge these types of stuck rounds in AR's without mortering them and possibly damaging the buffer tube or lower receiver cracking. Keep one in my AR toolbox. Have used it many times. There is actually a tool to move the bolt. It inserts through the mag well.
Or you can put the charging handle against the table and give it a good push.
Ive got several, never thought to use them that way. Nice AR hack!Lisle automotive tool. part # 35260 - plastic fastener remover. You can buy them at OReillys for 14-15 dollars.
