I have an AR with with a collapsible "six position" stock. What does "six position" mean?

As far as I can tell there are two positions, "expanded" and "collapsed". with a built-in detante-stop for each......

What am I missing?

If the stock is true to what it claims, and is working correctly, you should be able to place and lock the stock in six different positions.

Fully opened (pulled all the way out) is one
Fully closed (pushed all the way in) in another
There should be 4 intermediate lengths in between that can be locked into place.

Basically there should be six different lengths you can set the stock to.

If that is not the case, then either the stock is working incorrectly or you have a mislabeled product.

extend the stock all the way out. invert the gun. you should see a number of holes in the bottom of the receiver extension (buffer tube) where the stock locks in. there should be 6, though you won't be able to see most of them unless you remove the plastic stock

You're right, it must be one of the originals. I can see that from turning it over and doing a partial dissembly. Thx guys

No biggie.

The added positions are handy if your wearing a plate carrier or you are a small female with short ams. Otherwise mine is allways adjusted full long for shooting and full short for storage.

In fact I usually put on a slightly longer aftermarket stock since I'm a bit tall.

Methinks these guys who shoot with their stocks fully extended prefer a bladed stance. I'm a "squared up" stance kind of guy, so my current collapsible stock (VLTOR Modstock) doesn't get extended past position 3. The stock for my new carbine (VLTOR EMod) probably won't have to go past position 2, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

Good point MrClean. I wasn't thinking of a blade stance. I used to shoot that way as well but have found I have much better control over the gun and myself when squared up.

maybe I have a big nugget or something? or maybe my 6920 deosn't go out as far as other stocks. maybe some Ar's have longer buffer tubes?

I do shoot bladed at 45 for standing long shots. For crouching and kneeling shots I'm squared up but don't need to adjust the stock. For cqb I'll click in one click shorter.

I use an aimpoint and like to pull the stock into my shoulder. I'm 6'2" if that makes a difference.

Your posture when crouched or kneeling probably allows you to crane your head a little farther forward without feeling like you're working too hard for it.

I'm 6'4" and still like a short length of pull.
