Things really haven't changed for the last 3,000 years:

Proverbs 1:10-19 (New International Version)
10 My son, if sinners entice you,
do not give in to them.
11 If they say, "Come along with us;
let's lie in wait for someone's blood,
let's waylay some harmless soul;
12 let's swallow them alive, like the grave,
and whole, like those who go down to the pit;
13 we will get all sorts of valuable things
and fill our houses with plunder;
14 throw in your lot with us,
and we will share a common purse"-
15 my son, do not go along with them,
do not set foot on their paths;
16 for their feet rush into sin,
they are swift to shed blood.
17 How useless to spread a net
in full view of all the birds!
18 These men lie in wait for their own blood;
they waylay only themselves!
19 Such is the end of all who go after ill-gotten gain;
it takes away the lives of those who get it.

This 14y/o needed a dad to warn him who not to follow. But this 14y/o made a moral decision who to follow and that "ill-gotten gain" was worth the risk.

It wasn't worth the risk.

Let us all impress upon our offspring the dangers of such activity left we walk a mile in the shoes.

This kid's learning curve was so tight it turned into the circle of life.

The reason our society is breaking down, is that there are few real consequences to poor choices and behaviors.

I hope some other 14 y/o learns from this kid, that there are indeed consequences, and him losing his life.

Ready2Defend - ABSOLUTELY RIGHT ON!

I do feel sorry for the kid, who probably received his first discipline in a long time (if ever) the night he was killed for being stupid.

I feel worse for the homeowner who was forced to defend himself in his own home, and now had to live with the fact that he killed that kid.

This is truly sad...

Home Invader Killed in Pine Bluff Break-In

Police in Pine Bluff tell us that a home invader who was shot while breaking into a person's home has died. It's an update to a story we brought you first Thursday night. Pine Bluff detectives say 14-year-old Winston Walls had a gun when he was shot and killed by the homeowner.

Fixed it!

The problem is, these kids' parents are usually suit-proof. Even if you win, there's nothing there to win. Now, if they sue the homeowner, I think he should sue their lawyer -- on the grounds that the lawsuit is a continuation of the original crime.

It wouldn't surprise me if the perp's parents were lowlifes themselves . . . it was predicted a generation ago that then-current gang members would soon be raising children evern worse and more dangerous than they were . . . the term coined then was "feral youth."

Sounds like one was put down here.

so this incident made me suspect the 2 older kids chose the youngest to go into the house in case he got caught the authorities would go softer on him.

I don't think he should sue the parents, some of the monsters in this world have loving caring parents, this kid made a choice, it was to kick in someones door, and try to rob the house. he had to know the risks, and he did it anyway. 14 or not, someone kicks in my back door with a gun, i'm putting one in them, well maybe even 2.

I assume the homeowner's insurance would defend any lawsuit for wrongful death. Anyone know of a homeowner's policy that would not? Maybe it's time to check your policy limits for personal liability.

What I've learned from my time in Iraq and here in the states, a teenager can sqeeze the trigger just as easy as an adult, and they should be treated in the same manor. Good on this home owner!

Perhaps the only good to come of this would be if the teenage lookouts learned a valuable lesson about home invasions.

Unfortunately, I think it will only reinforce their decision to send someone else in to do the dirty work for them.

I grew up with no father in my home. At 14 I had the sense to know not to break into someone's home. I grew up in Georgia where guns in the home are quite common. Being shot never entered my mind as I grew up with the idea that guns are for hunting, target shooting, self protection, and collectors value.

I'm quite tired of the Democrat "bleeding heart" types that perpetuate the myth that to reduce crime we need to reduce gun ownership. So too am I tired of the "religious right" that perpetuate the myth that not having a father leads to an immoral youth.

What matters is whether or not a boy has role models. Look who our role models are today?

The majority of youths in prison are black. Who are black role models? Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton? I think not. The only role models they have are rap stars like Snoop Dogg and athletes like Michael Vick. We need more Michael Jordans and less Michael Vicks.

The solution is in our own communities.

Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America has been doing this for years. There are also other lessor known organizations than Big Brothers & Big Sisters.

If you have a problem with youth today volunteer.

In addition to volunteering we need to fix the broken public school system. Ever since Columbine, and perhaps before, public school administrators have their head so far up their rear ends it's not even funny!

What happens when two boys get in a fist fight? They're both suspended or expelled regardless of the circumstances behind the fight. What's a kid suppose to do when he's picked on? Tell teacher? Let's not teach our youth to defend themselves we want a Democrat sponsored nation of sheep.

Rant off.
