I recently got the AR bug, so I decided to build one!
I got a S&W M&P15 stripped lower. There are so many choices, I couldn't sleep till late last night deciding which one I want :D

I will need LPK, regular stock kit, and I'm looking either Stag 2HT complete upper or RRA A4 upper. I tried the usual sites like Brownells, BCM, CTD, but they seem to be out of stock or don't carry them. I've contacted both RRA and Stag, just waiting their reply.
Where do you guys normally get your assemblies for parts/kits/uppers?

I'd say Del-Ton for a complete upper.. (I use their barrels, good products)
And you could check Surplus Arms and Ammo for a DPMS LPK I know they are are $51 from them..

Best of luck

I just today finished a build. My first.

I started with a Timberwolf Tactical LPK in Stainless Steel. The company went out of business, it seems. Since I live on a boat, when I saw one for sale at a LGS in VA, for $90.00, I snatched it up. ( I wish I had cleaned out the stock when I had a chance).

At a gun show, I saw Spikes lowers for $100.00, with the Calico Jack Logo- since I live on a boat, I thought building an A RRRRRRR! 15 would be a fun idea.

I added an ACE stock, Buffer and reciever extension from Midway, and put it all together. Just lovely.

I was toying with the idea of a Failzero upper, after seeing a guy at the range clean his BCG totally SPOTLESS with a paper napkin. I saw one at the LGS in Jacksonville FL for the same price I'd pay online ($399.00) and I liked what I saw, so I bought it.

It didn't come with a dust cover or Fwd Assist, so I order them from DPMS in Matte Chrome ($37.55), and put it all together.

Last week, after dithering back and forth between a 20" and an 18" AR Stoner barrel in Stainless ('cause, yanno, I live on a boat), (plus, SHINEY!) Midway decided for me by being out of stock on the 20, so I ordered the 18" ($259.99), a big shiney SS muzzle break (Nordic Components Corvette @ $44.99), a Hogue non-rubber coated freefloat tube (black- it didn't come shiney), Gas Tube and Midwest Industry upper hight Gas block (black)($64.99)

The barrel etc., arrived UPS today, and I just finished putting it together. Pretty sweet. a little weird looking ( I wish the Failzero upper was a better match- it's got a sort of gold tint to it), but I think I like it. If not, there's always Krylon ;-)

I recently built a Del-Ton kit full upper and lower. I had a DPMS stripped lower. Came out great. They were very nice, great customer service. I had a 20" barrel, which took a little longer, but still was only 5 weeks. Compared to what I was seeing elsewhere, that was pretty good. I've had up to 18 week waits with other companies.

Try BCM or Palmetto State Armory for parts.

I second the Palmetto State Armory suggestion. I have been into their store in Columbia, SC numerous times, and the customer service is excellent, the prices are good, and the parts (lower parts as well as complete uppers) are very nicely finished and look to be of very good quality (proper staking, etc.), especially considering the price.

got them

Thanks guys. I found a place where they have all the stuff I'm looking for.

I was keeping tab of the total cost...

Man this hobby is freakin' expensive, I'm now just playing the waiting the UPS man game :D

First, how many mags and at what price? If you buy in quantity, you should have 25 or so mags for that money. $199+$44 fees is outrageous for a stripped lower. You should be looking at $60-$80. What upper are you getting? $855 with lpk and stock isn't horrible, but it's not an amazing deal for a basic upper. If you get everything from them, shipping still comes out to $100+? Again, outrageous. What accessories are you getting? All of this sounds overpriced for a basic setup. If you are getting something special or with really top quality parts, maybe it's a fair deal, but I wouldn't spend that money without getting a very custom top tier rifle, a good optic of some sort, and a few good mags.

Unfortunately, the $100 for shipping isn't all that off - especially if it's next day air.

$199 for a stripped lower? That's the price range for a complete one with stock. Please elaborate.

So far I've got about $980 in a 6.8 dissipator, that's with a $48 stripped upper and $79 stripped lower. Yes, it does add up, buying complete can be priced competitively. The cash flow challenge and doing something completely different and unavailable is why we do it.

I have to agree. Those prices seem high. A Noveske lower is only 150 and they tend to be some of the more expensive striped ones. Heck you can get a spikes for under 75. Or a complete RRA for about 250. Can you give us more details on the products purchased, quantity of mags, etc.

I got a Stag 2H upper complete with BCG for 530$. BCM sells them as does Palmetto. Mine came with a 1/9 chromed barrel, MI ERS, 2 sling attachment points, and a few other doodads. I will highly recommend that upper. I got a few mags from Midway marked AR Stoner for 8$ a piece and they work flawlessly. I also got a BCM (version 1) stock kit on sale for 60$.
