For any of you not sure what this match entails, there are threads on prior years' matches if you search. It's been hard for me to make this match for a couple years now with the WCFW 3Gun being the day before.

There have been 5.45 and 5.56 AK's at this match in the past.
Cartridge differences don't make the top 3 things that cause performance differentiation.

The whole point of the match is for people to get out there and have fun.
If I start jamming all kinds of silly rules down people throats they will stay away.
I know what gun I shoot better with. It is up to each shooter to decide if they made a fair comparison.

Well the annual AK vs AR match is in the bag. 20 people made the trek to Pueblo Colorado and put their money where their mouth is.
Long story short as far as AK vs AR goes one thing is very clear. People dont like shooting them. Only two people shot an AK *and* an AR.
The other 18 people just stuck with an AR. I almost brought an AUG, but changed my mind late Saturday night.
Justin again set up a cool 32 round stage with MGM Flash targets out to 250-280 yards or so. I shot it well according to the results, but I am just a little too short to shoot off the top of a 55 gallon drum and get any type of decent position.
Next Sept I will try to bring an AK or some other commie gun.

This was a great match! Challenging for most shooters, lots of fun, and a great group of competitors. I was no where near the top of the list, but would share a range with these folks any day. The match was well worth the drive for the good company and the improvements I now know I can work on for my own shooting.
Next month's is the last of the season. I would strongly encourage anyone in the area to come out for it. If you have the fundamentals of safe handling and marksmanship down, the only other requisite is to come out with your rifle and be prepared to enjoy yourself.

How about a speed fieldstrip competiton. (Fun blindfolded.)
Fastest time to empty a thirty round magazine. (Safely of course.)
Target shooting for accuracy. (Regular paper targets.)
Target shooting for damage. (Have to break a cinderblock into rubble.)
Most rounds fired without a malfunction. (Jams, fte, etc.)
Best Looking and Ugliest Gun Contest. (Crowd can vote.)

How about simply making hits on practical targets from contact distance to a couple hundred yards (timed and graded of course)? That's the general problem fighting rifles are the tool for.
