I know that the two rifles have a multitude of interchangeable parts, but which ones? I know the upper and lower are not interchangeable and obviously the barrel and bolt aren't, but is the bolt carrier? DPMS sells a .308 bolt but no .308 bolt carrier or full assembly. As far as I know everything else except maybe the charging handle are interchangeable. Anyone got the facts on this?

Thanks.

ETA: for an ArmaLite AR-10:

Bolt carrier is NOT the same. Firing pin assembly NOT the same.
Buffer and buffer spring NOT the same.
Carbine-length receive extension tube NOT the same.
Bbl nut and some associated handguard parts NOT the same.
Gas tube NOT the same.

Between a standard pattern AR-15 and an Armalite AR-10, here's my list from memory.
Not the same:
  • receivers, upper and lower
  • barrel/extension/delta ring/barrel nut
  • float tubes (if used)
  • gas tube (technically not the same but you can use an AR15 gas tube in an AR10 without an issue; dunno if the converse is true)
  • ejection port cover and pin
  • bolt, carrier, firing pin, cam, cotter pin, extractor
  • pistol grip
  • trigger group (close, but not exact)
  • most all other lower parts not listed below
  • buffer (AR-10 buffers are dimensionally different to allow a longer BCG travel)
  • buffer spring (the AR-10 uses a AR-15 length spring of a higher spring rate)
  • magazines, followers, springs
The same:
  • trigger guard
  • magazine release button
  • gas block/front sight tower
  • A2 stock/buffer tube
  • front sight post and A2 rear sight assy
  • handguards
  • most any 1913-based add-on (BUIS, etc.)
Dunno - never checked:
  • gas rings (probably not)
  • extractor spring
  • front sight spring/detent
  • ejector plunger and spring
