What is the best, easy to find, .22 conversion for an AR-15. I am not looking at the whole upper as I am not looking for match accuracy just indoor shooting range fun.

So does the Cienar kit work ok?

Is the problem of leading really that bad of an issue? Will it hurt the gas tube in any way.

Will the AK Brake on the end of a Bushmaster shorty cause any problems or should any kind of brake be avoided with these conversion kits.

Thanks
Chris

I have (and rarely use, it's kinda boring) the Atchinson conversion kit.

It works fine, but accuracy suffers compared to a .22 upper.

.22lr is cruddy, cruddy, so expect to spend quality time swabbing out your upper and lower, and you MUST use a chamber brush before using 5.56 again.

The instructions for cleaning the gas tube amuse me: "fire the 5.56 cartridge after cleaning the chamber".

Haven't had a lead problem, thanks to chrome lined chamber and barrel.

If you can find a preban atchinson, they come with 30 rounders, post bans come with 2 10 rounders, which is what I've got.

Get the dedicated upper. It's the only way to go since the .224 bore of the 5.56 mm rifle is far too large for the .221 bullet of the 22 LR. Bounce, bounce, lead, lead. No good for .224 bore, no good for 22 LR accuracy.

CZ has one ($325 methinks) and it's a bargain. Been trying to find someone at ARCOM ( http://www.ar15.com/forums ) has one and can report back on the results. I have a Kuehl dedicated upper with a modified Ciener. Shoots great but more costly. BTW, I like the Ciener because I have about 4 30 round magazines (bought years ago prior to getting the Kuehl) and can liberally spray 'n pray. :)
