Yep, I'd move to a place where I could own one (local Sheriff won't sign off on anything). I don't own the rifle I would convert though...a GSG-5 would be great...assuming I could find .22lr when the ban was lifted. :)

I'd love a SBR, maybe something like a 9x23 or 10mm with a 10" barrel.
I'd love a .32 Skorpion.
I'd love a Bizon 3 in 7.62x25mm.

The Skorpion and Bizon are NOT rifles, though. Full auto is really only useful for subguns and crew-served weapons. Hell, I've fired thousands of rounds semi-auto in the infantry. Why would I want to go against my training when using my home defense piece?

So, to recap, there are certain things that, if cheap and legal, I'd have, but my defensive carbines will not be full-auto, and selective fire capability on something that I never plan to use that way just seems to be adding an unnecessary complication.

Just as a side FYI, the actual cost to convert to full auto, tax stamp price aside, is MUCH less than $500.

$45 was the going rate before 1986, for the simplest method the Lightning Link.

Add a burst fire kit to that for another $50 or so.

A real shame.

The full auto thing just doesn't really do anything for me in a rifle.

Definite +1 on the vault full of SBRs I'd have kicking around if they were unregulated.

I think a couple of DIAS' would be in order, expecially with the multitude of different caliber uppers available like 9mm, 40S&W, and .22.

Not full auto but 3 rd burst if it were legal to do so. More useful than full auto.

How?

I never understood the reasoning behind SBS and SBR being added in the NFA '34.

They're easily concealable. Handguns were intended to be controlled under the NFA originally, but that wasn't going to fly. Of course, verify that for yourself. This is the internet after all.

Getting '34 NFA repealed too would be pretty rad.

Me talking to my friend:
"Hey dude, sorry I missed your call, I was on the other line with RRA ordering a DIAS for my other AR and I couldn't find my credit card. I had to go all the way out to the car to find it. It was such a PITA. Anyway, what's up?" :D

P.S. I really like the term "Homeland Defense Rifle".

Full auto is cool, but I can barely afford to feed my semi auto now, when I can even find ammo at all. Full auto is a fast track to the poor house.

This guy wants burst, that guy wants burst, but they don't want full auto?!

Burst IS full auto.

If you only want a few rounds fired, let off the trigger ;)

If your looking strickly for some fun....go full auto. Other than that...keep it as is. I'm not a full auto guy, but thats just me.

Definately. There are a number of AR uppers that would be sweet on a select fire weapon. .22 LR and the 5.7x28 come to mind.

I would definately have a select fire Saiga 12 as well.

I would have one as a fun gun but not my homeland defense rifle.

I trained a lot to use multiple quick shots in CQB while in the Army and it works pretty well. Full auto can be a hinderance in a CQB situation. Sure you just hosed the s**t out of that guy that surprised you around the corner, but you might run a mag dry to quickly if you have multiple bad guys.

I am a very bad shot with an M16 on full auto....but with an M60 or Thompson it is a whole different story....

I would even have to purchase my 1st AR-15 and x39 AK if the ban were repealed...they would sell better after the next ban. :p

A true HK MP5, and HK G36C for "fun guns". And a PARA SAW would be in the works for the hell of it. Other than that id have a M16 with semi, and a 3rnd. burst.

The SAW, MP5, and G36C would be if I could have SBR's in Alabama. :)

If I could get 2 round burst, I might actually buy a rifle in 5.56x45. But I wouldn't convert my M1a to FA. I prefer aimed fire.
