Just curious as to which magazines are considered the best and most reliable.

I am going to build an AR this winter - gotta have something to do when it's the frozen tundra.

There someone locally selling USGI 30 round mags - mfg by Okay Industries. Are they worth looking at?

Thanks!

Everything I've read says to look for the green follower USGI mags. Lots of companies make them.

they do have the green follower. But silly question - what is a green follower?

I have found

That the Pmags from magpul work the best for me, great springs and anti tilt followers.. And the polymer comes in like four flavors...
Just wish they would make em for my LR308..

Green follower = the follower is green.

The Cproducts mags are very nice. I have some with the green follower and some with the gray magpul follower. They work great!
Cope's http://www.copesdist.com/ar15.htm has 10 packs of cproducts mags with green followers for $90.
the cproducts website is http://www.cproductsllc.com/

I bought mine with the magpul followers from GTS http://www.globaltactical.com/axami/shop.php?grd=332

Aim also has them http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/copy_of_C_Products_AR15_30rd_.223_mag_w__Green_follower.html

I really really really hate the green followers. :fire:

I threw out 6 today, 2 different lots, all "mil-spec" and they all sucked.

The grey followers are nice, had 'em from used gun show surplus to brand new Bushmasters. Flawless.

I just got some C-products 20 rnds and they look very nice, haven't tried them w/anything more than aluminum practice rounds.

One reason i bought my cproducts mags from GTS. a quote from their site "All of our C Products magazines come equipped with genuine MagPul Industries Anti-Tilt Gray Followers for 100% feeding reliabity." The ones I have with green followers were bought locally and were still new in bag.

I have Cproducts, & 1 Pmag & D&H from Bravo,
I'd rate them in that order, the pmag may take first, but the D&H will be 3rd.
I got the pmag last & have not used it

All things considered dollar for dollar & pound for pound the Cproducts are the best of the 3 for me. The green followers arent as good as my orange ones in the Cproducts. Some folks have reported defective Cproducts mags.

The Pmags are little heavier, cost a little more, & quite beautiful, but can't say they are the best. They are easy to disassemble & reassemble. I'm concerned about long term reliabilty, but aluminum mags can crack & fail also.
The follower appears to be awesome. Another plus is the plastic color is not a finish but goes trough. If I'm not mistaken an empty pmag is noisier than CProducts, spring rattling
If your going to use your mags to drive on get Pmags. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UCFXcOOb4jc&NR=1

Hope that helps,

I think the Magpul PMAGs are the best mags around right now. As far as aluminum mags are concerned I would only buy Okay/NHMTG brand and replace the followers with Magpul Gen II followers. I have owned over a hundred AR mags and have had issues with the other brands.

Described by one person as making them hungry for french fries, I have had one alarming malfunction with a C Products 20 round stainless steel magazine:

To his credit, Larry replaced it without me even asking. I've never seen any report of a similar experience.

HK Maritime 30 rounders are great, but they're just not worth 2-3x what other mags cost at least partly because I haven't really had too many problems with AR mags in general other than a couple of green followers developing the terminal tilt.

Since I prefer 20 rounders, I've slowly been standardizing on 20 round D&H Teflon mags with Magpul Gen 2 followers.

Personally, I think the D&H, Bushmaster, and Brownell's all make a good mag - I'm sure the last two are just rebeanded, I just don't know who makes them. I have some of the old C Products mags before the huge group buy that went down recently. They are noticeably different from the group CP mags (of which I bought 11). The new ones have sloppy welds imo, although only one has acted up. Then again, they haven't really seen hard use either. Going forward, I'm not buying AR mags sight unseen.
