I broke a extractor on my AR yesterday and instead of replacing it I just ordered me a nickel boron bcg that I had been wanting.
Question is about using oil on it. I always ran my AR wet and wondered should I do the same thing with this one?

A little lube would be good. I had one and tried it dry vs lubed and preferred lubed. I actually had issues with the NiB BCG I used so I put it somewhere I wouldn't lose it and haven't seen it since!

IIRC there are different types of NiB BCG's...I think NP3/NP3+ is the new leader

I have one, I still run it wet.

Even dry it's still fairly slick.

Don't use Hoppes to clean it though.
That was going to be my next question. I use hoppes to clean the barrel and use to use it on the other bcg. Why should it not be used and what to use?

Wouldn’t happen to have been on a 300 BO pistol would it? I run mine wet including the NiBs. WD-40, One Shot, Slip, or almost any light oil.

Hoppe's #9 is an ammonia based solvent and should not generally be used on nickel plated surfaces, chrome or aluminum.

I use Slip 2000 or Slip 2000 EWL and a toothbrush. I've occasionally used CLP. I'd just recommend one of the three. Not much need for anything else. Carbon comes off of Nickel Boron BCG's fairly easy.

Just know that if you do a test of a couple thousand rds and shoot it dry without lube it will stain permanently. I've owned it since Feb 2013.

Still easier to clean, it's just not all bright and shiny anymore.

I didn’t take any “after” cleaning pics but here’s after range day, 100+ rounds shot completely dry. By contrast my other NiB BCG was lubed as normal and came out far cleaner, albeit with a lower round count. Definitely easier to clean when fired wet.

I think I’m gonna treat both with Frog Lube Paste before next outing and see if the carbon and fouling wipe off the way it does on pistols. That stuff really has surpassed all of my expectations over the years.

The majority rubbed right off with a little CLP but I scrubbed a bit on the last 15 percent or so. PSA in a rifle length config.

I run the Nickel Boron BCG in my AR pistol wet, just not sopping; tried it totally dry, got some hiccups, just added a few squirts and no problems. You can't miss where the dirt is on them, that's for sure.
