I’m back out in the field pursuing high desert mule deer with a bow. I’ve been out 4 days and have two more to go. The rut is starting to fire up and I am seeing some bucks but nothing yet that I’ve considered worthy of a shot.
A bad moon arising. So clear and huge it looks photo shopped in the picture! This high altitude desert air is about as clear and beautiful as can be had.
Looks like you are having a great hunt regardless of drawing blood or not. Most times just being out in the middle of nowhere is as good or better than the intended result. Besides, once the trigger is pulled, the work starts.
Last night I saw 4 coyotes one bobcat and a solo spinster of a doe. I’ve got to pack up camp and head into town this morning. I’ll be back in mid December to give it another try.
Our gun season goes out today here in Indiana, then we have 5 days of archery & then muzzleloader season opens for two weeks. Then we have the end of archery season until Jan 7th of 2024.
We are blessed here in Arkansas. Our archery season runs a little over 5 months and can take 6 deer statewide with a 2 buck limit. I get to hunt a lot.
I will say that learning to bowhunt before baiting became legal has helped me immensely, but I have a tendency to set up too close when rifle season hits. It is amazing how well a deer can hear a safety click off.
