Ok, so here's the deal. It'll be my birthday soon, and my dad gave me two options: $300, or an as-new S&W Lady Smith that he recently aquired and doesn't want.

I was just curious, would any guy out there feel...odd...carrying a "Lady" Smith?

I carried a 642LS for a while. I didn't mind. I loved the wood grips and if I understand it came with a factory trigger job.

That being said I couldn't hit what I was aiming at so I sold it. The fault was mine and not the gun.

Does it function, is it comfortable for carry, and will it do the job when called upon?

If so, I have no problem carrying something labeled "Lady," although if it's pink I may have to get it refinished...

I would argue that the factors that used to be utilized to market guns to women (lightweight, easy recoil, etc) are now frequently used to market concealed carry guns to anyone...

What model ladysmith? I got a M-65 3" one of my favorite guns I believe it is the only 3" fixed sight gun with a shrouded ejector rod. But I may be wrong!!

I would take a Lady Smith over a 642. The grips are nice, they're finished really well and I have heard they have slightly lighter/smoother triggers right from the box. They're going for $450 new right now....

This is an all depends answer.
My Ladysmith, 65-5, 3", 357 mag, stainless is not for sale. I have had several law enforcement and pistol instructors tell me to name my price for this gun. I have been kidded about having a "lady" gun. The kidding has never lasted beyond the first six into the target. As I am getting older it is getting to be too heavy for daily carry. But at night the Ladysmith and Hornady critical defense lay close to where my wife and I are sleeping. A true lady always sticks by her fellow. For me nothing works quite as well as a 65-5.

No one, no one should ever see a concealed carry gun except for you. Unless, of course, the person is attacking you, in which case he will be seeing the muzzle, not the logo. I don't see a problem. I once had a 65LS and it was an awesome revolver. At one time, Smith would sell a new side plate sans the LadySmith logo if you wanted.

I always took the name to indicate that it was an ellegant gun meant for a sophisticated CC'er. As in "What do I carry? Well this is my little lady (insert name here)." If you are into naming a gun that is. It's a .357 magnum right? There's nothing lady like about that.

I'd take the gun. If you decide you can't handle the name, have it buffed and remove the lettering, or engraved. Worst case scenario, sell it and get more than $300, which should be easy.

Not a revolver, but one of my favorite 9mms "back in the day" was S&W 3919 "ladysmith". I'm secure enough in my manhood to carry one today (except for the fact that I never quite got used to the slide mounted, upside-down safety).

I would feel odd, but I would use it if it was all I had available. I'd much rather carry the same model without the Lady embellishments. If I had a wife or daughter who would use it I'd take the Ladysmith over the cash.

What color scheme is it?

Personally, even though I am 6'1" and 225 lbs, I would take the gun if it wasn't a feminine color.

If it was feminine....................I wouldn't take it unless it had "wings" just to be sure.

Not a problem with me. If offered I would take the gun over the $300 cash.

To quote William Shakespeare on the topic:

"What is in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet".

That which they call a Ladysmith revolver would shoot as well as a Model 65.

I'd have no issue with it..

You took the words right out of my mouth.

As a more practical answer, a quality gun is a quality gun. I would proudly carry a S&W ladysmith of just about any model, as they tend to have a nicer finish.

Yeah I'd carry one. I draw the line somewhere around pink shirts and holding my wifes purse for her. You'll prolly be ok doing one thing at a time but if you ever find yourself doing multiple nonmanly things at once an unknowing passersby might mistake you for a switch hitter.

If you carry it will the bad guy know the difference? Carry it and forget about it being a lady's Smith. Most of the ones I have seen look and shoot great.
