Are slings worth creating dings on nice bluing?

These rifles are only taken to the club:

PTR-91, Imbel FAL, Czechpoint VZ-58 and the newest: S.A. M1A Standard.
The bluing looks perfect as does almost every other surface on these.

Maybe I'm being just a wimp about it; but I love the appearance of authentic leather military slings on guns.
If this is just wimpiness, tell me so.

I feel your pain!

I wrapped all the sling hardware on mine in Tesa tape. Doing so pretty much rules out rapid adjustment, but it does help protect the guns finish and prevent sling rattles.

Another option is fit the slings with QD or carabiner attachments so you can quickly remove the sling and store it in a seperate pouch when the gun is in its case.

We are sometimes able to remove excess, or unnecessary hardware between sling connectors or adapters that connect in the hardware.

One 'loop type' sling model by Vickers has on their AK sling (loop is also available from a variety of vendors) works well on the end closest to the muzzle.

It is definitely worth considering. Then, the other end of the sling near the wood, plastic or hinged rifle stock is usually okay since it is away from the receiver?
