Are some rifles more tolerant of higher pressure?

For reference there is a good article in the June 2011 of Handloader Magazine (No. 272). It shows the max load of H-4350 is 56g in a Win case with a 130g Hornady Interbond at OAL of 3.210

I've yet to blow a primer or separate a case head.
...the determining factor in case life for me is visable
head separation just short of through & through.
When you've had it happen, however, you resolve never to deliberately beard that lion again.

Clark. Hey, which powder do you load the .270 win. with when your trying to break the world record for velocity? Is it RL19, RL22, H1000, or IMR4350 or what ever. I'm loading RL19 and it will flat send those 130 gr. BT sailing at 3250 fps using a compressed charge of RL22.

I am getting 3228 fps 130 gr 270 with Re17 and a 22" barrel with long brass life!!!

The Canadian poster, Kombayotch's graph posted on Canadian Gun Nuts, where he heated ammo in an oven at the range.

After I look at that, and back off more safety margin for the temperature variation, I may be back at Varget.

Update after Chrono Testing

OK for those that are interested. I chrono tested the loads today for the first time.

The 130gn SST loaded with 55.5 grains of AR2209 (H4350) averaged 3005fps.

The 150gn SST loaded with 54.5 grains of the same powder averaged 2880fps.

According to most manuals the 150 grain loading is an overload. And the 130 grain one is an overload according some manuals as well.

I am very encouraged by the 150 grain load. It shoots 3 shots into one inch at 100 yards easy, and 5 in 1.5 inches. As a hunting rifle that is way good enough for me.

I would like to get a little more out of the 130. Seeing as I went a whole grain higher in previous testing with no signs of pressure I will give that a go down the track.

Please note I don't recommend these loads in any other rifles but the one I was using this afternoon!

Thanks for the update. I was curious as to what velocities you were getting.

Just another quick update. Went out this morning and fired another dozen out of the 130 and 150 loads, each. I think I had the chrony set up a bit better this time.

The 150 was a good consistent 2895fps average over 12 shots and the 130 a solid 3035fps.

The 130 was perhaps a little more accurate, though only talking 1 inch vs 1.5 inch groups at 100 yds. For hunting I won't notice. No doubt the 150 is hitting harder.

Still no sign at all of any pressure stress. The temp was 16 degrees celsius. I take the point above about working up again somewhat with a different powder lot, or any new component.

Thanks all for the info. A great learning experience.
