Are you gonna carry at Christmas mass?

Carried last night to the in-laws' church for Christmas Eve services, no one was the wiser. And I was well-dressed with the shirt tucked in and everything. ;)

And I'd love for it to be legal to carry in a church in Ohio, just as I'd love it to be legal to carry into places that serve alcohol and food. As sooner we get the collective idiots in Columbus to change the restrictions on concealed carry here, the better.

(CNN) –– A Salvation Army major was shot dead in front of his three children on Christmas Eve in North Little Rock, Arkansas, authorities said.

Maj. Philip Wise, 40, was gunned down Thursday. He was found lying by the back entrance of a Salvation Army facility, said police spokesman Sgt. Terry Kuykendall.

Wise apparently dropped two bell ringers off at home and returned to the Salvation Army building with his three children, ages 4, 6 and 8. Two men carrying handguns approached them and demanded money before shooting Wise, Kuykendall said.

The suspects fled on foot.

Police received a 911 call at 4:17 p.m. Pulaski County Coroner Garland Camper said Wise's wife, Cindy, made the call from inside the building.

"My heart goes out for the family, losing their dad, and I guess having to witness it during this time of year," Camper told CNN affiliate KARK. "It's definitely going to be hard on the kids."

Wise had been active in the Salvation Army for 16 years and was assigned to the Baring Cross neighborhood of North Little Rock for the past three years.

Area Commander Maj. Harvey Johnson said the Salvation Army will hold a news conference on Christmas Day.

"We would hope that whoever the perpetrators are would step forward," he said.

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. It is perhaps best known for its donation centers and bell ringers who collect money for the needy during the holiday season.

I'm heavily involved in a church security ministry. One of my mentors is head of security at a large church in Ohio, and they are armed.

IIRC it is up to the Pastor or deacon/elder board in that state.

Ruger LCP in my right front pocket, no one was the wiser. The only time I consider not carrying is anywhere that may have restrictions, like airports

My hubby and I always carry at Mass. A lot of people hate Catholicism and you never know when one of them might show up to Mass armed and dangerous.

While I dont understand why some people wouldnt carry in church or why individual churchs might prohibit guns (well, I guess I know some of the arguments)...

I really do not understand how or why a STATE would make a law agaisnt carrying in a church. What is the basis for this?

The thinking is probably along the lines of not having discussions on sex, religion, & politics in mixed company.

Who knows, maybe the politicians think that someone may get really ticked off and devolve into name calling and then they'll pull out their gun and finish the argument. :D

...txgolfer45.....READ IT AGAIN

...it is most definitely NOT ILLEGAL to do so in Texas...unless the church entrances are posted with the PROPER LEGAL sign, and I have never seen one...one of the comments in the CCW class was that we'd be astounded to know how many No. Texas pastors have been through the class and carry every day....why not...they're sitting ducks if they don't...

...we have to know the law to keep excercising our rights....I re-read my CCW book several times a year and often learn a new thing....

Sheepdog,

I hate it when they state the law and then footnote the exceptions later on. Thanks for clarifying. No 30-06 signage, then you are good to go.

Keep the edge/SA sharp

...

Also keep in mind that Christmas brings out the_depression in many, along with, the mentally disturbed get angrier during festive times for most others..

That is the_Quirk of it all

...I got plumb discouraged in the class when they listed the prohibitions...then perked right up when they read on...seems the Lord trusts us just fine!!!:)

Yep.

I especially carry during holidays and family gatherings. I carry more for my family's sake than my own, especially since becoming a father.

My wife also carries a Sig P238.

Lately, I'm carrying more spare 1911 mags than usual... and my Sig 238 for backup... with its own spare.

Ironic -- carried the PT-709 on Christmas Eve. Thanks again! :)

I carry regularly in church. The only exception typically is when I'm working the nursery. I trust my holster, but since I don't have kids, I don't have much experience wallowing around in the floor with it, so I don't want to take the risk.

As I undserstand it many states prohibited church carry to prevent freed slaves from defending themselves. It legalized victim rich target zones.

Of course I did. Just like any other Mass. I especially expect a heathen to show up on such a holy day.
