Are you ready?

Am I ready? I think so. Care to try me?

about 4 seconds to hit cover in the bathroom, 2 more to draw and aim at the door of the Hotel I am staying in here in Jasper ,Texas. Small room, and I ALWAYS carry when out of town.

Covers not great though, 3 3/8 inch wall, ceramic tile on my side, better than standing in the open though I suppose.

So, right now I am in my office in the basement; haven't put my pistol in the cabinet yet, so I can probably make it up the stairs and behind the refrigerator with a clean line of sight to the front door in less than 15 seconds; I would only have to turn around for the garage and kitchen doors, and I would be kneeling behind the kitchen cabinets. Another 10 seconds would get me at least one more gun and a bunch of ammo before I hit the stairs.

INTERESTING QUESTION -- very thought provoking, and I am feeling pretty good about my chances.

I just tried this out last night with my wife and child. If she is here it is about 25 seconds. If she isn't it is closer to 40 seconds.

That is entirely to long. However, I have to secure an infant when I'm at home. So getting the kid somewhere out of the way, and where they can't roll/crawl in to trouble is time consuming.

I also rely completely on the use of a rifle right now. So, I can not exactly tote it around the house. I especially don't want it sitting around with the kid. Even without one in the chamber, if it falls, there could be serious problems.

Still waiting to hear about my CCW permit. I'm not buying a pistol untill it comes through.

I sleep with a hot blooded Red Headed Mama Bear. On her side of the bed she keeps a short barreled 870 with a SureFire flashlight attached.

On my side, I usually keep a Glock 19, Glock 21, 1911 or an N framed .44. They are really not needed, due to the Red Head.

I just need to stay out of the way as she will tear into anything between her and her offspring.

How fast is the speed of angry Red light?

Geez, not only am I ready for the gang of thugs who are starting to break down my door right now, I had to deactivate each of the security systems and unbolt the door just so that they would have a chance to make entry successfully. I did not want their egos to suffer because they were physically unable to make entry. Of course after making entry, the door closes automatically and locks electronically and they will find themselves inside of a chain link man trap. The closed door activates raising the gate to release the hounds into the trap. Dobermans don't lose cage fights.

The setup is expensive and takes of considerable room as each of the door and window areas are protected in this manner, leaving the family to live out our lives in a small, semisubterrainian heavily fortified safe room.

for me Im upstairs and alone in the house. My bedroom is at the far end of the hall where I can see the top of the stairs about 20 ft away. I would grab my .38 special off my hip and my box of bullets off my dresser. Then get down in the prone possition at the bottom edge of my door. Door open. That way I can peek around and fire at any threat comming up the stairs. If I find myself out gunned then I go to plan B. Which is get thy keister out the window and run for it. Im on the second story, but I figure If I hung at arms length from the window sill first it would only be about a 6 ft drop. Im pretty confident I can handle that without hurting myself. Then its off into the woods at the end of my dead end street. For more cover and wait till the LEO's show up, Which I hopefully called when they were breaking in.

I'm sure I'd be ready. The neighbors dog would have waken me before the BG even got to my door. If not, I'd reach under the pillow on my right for a DA revolver. Most likely the Security Six. Or maybe the Sig 9mm on the stand to my left.

20 seconds. I left my CCW 1911 on my nightstand.:(

Just enough time to get to it before they made it throught the door and half way up stairs.:(

I ussually keep my CCW closer to me.
