Arizona custom grips magna-tusk on Colt SAA

Patton said a lot of dumb stuff LOL. Who makes TruIvory?
Once offered by BarS, now defunct, sadly. It was good stuff, though some folks complained that it was easily cracked. I've got a Ruger out that should be coming back with ResinIvory. The only substitute with Schreger lines.

If you are handy, a company called Masecraft sells "Alternative Ivory". It duplicates the "grain" of real Ivory and has a slight yellowing in color. This material is even used to do repair work to natural Ivory at a museum in England. 5" × 10"x 1/2" sheet is $26 if I remember correctly.

The only single action I have these days with wood grips is this Uberti Cattleman.
Isn't one of the reasons for the "plow handle" grip on the SAA to allow the gun to "roll in the hand" to handle recoil? It seems to me that smooth grips -- whether wood or ivory -- enhance this effect, while checkered grips inhibit it.

When I had the original Eagle grips (checkered) on my 2nd Generation Colt SAA, it found shooting it to be uncomfortable, because the checkering would dig into the flesh of my hand. It became much more comfortable to shoot after I substituted one-piece smooth wooden grips.

Lately, Uberti has started checkering their wooden grips. This works at cross-purposes, to my mind.

I have thrown away some factory grips that were checkered for that very reason. The very worst was on a Taurus Guacho. The checkering was extremely sharp and one cylinder full would have red spots on my hand where the checkering abraded it. A nice revolver with terrible grips as sold

I think most folks on this forum have seen these images.

I shaped those to fit that revolver nearly 4 decades ago from the densest antler I have ever found. Wish I had more of it. It was bright white when I got down but has mellowed richly from handling.

The same can be said about these, in very stages of mellowing.

I've never been fond of plastic on revolvers. CraigC's however do look quite nice, as do a couple of the other synthetics posted.
I do have one revolver with ivoryish looking plastic grips that came that way from the factory, come to think of it I should probably put something nicer on that BFR.
I need to get my hands on a giraffe bone specimen, but I really like the stag, buffalo horn, and buffalo bone I have put on others, particularly the buffalo bone. There are some gorgeous wood grips too.
